Oil filter from Walmart

The FL-2062 filter has the black end caps.

The FL-2062-A superseded the FL-2062 and does not have the end caps.

I would think that box should have had the filter without the end caps.

I pulled the filter and it was stamped as FL-2062 not the FL-2062-A. I replaced it with the proper filter but I ran the 2062 for a few hundred miles. Do you think this is of any concern?

The FL-2062 with the plastic ends is what my late 25 build xlt came with from the factory. Just my $0.02 worth, but I think the FL-2062 is a better design, as the protective end should give a better seal than the filter without it, snd giving less of a possibility of the filter bypassing. But I’m sure that the FL-2062-A seals just fine without the caps on the end of the filter.

No, you would have been fine.

My 2026 XLT came with the earlier filter from the factory.

I'm speculating that the change in filters may be related to Champ Labs going TU and Motorcraft needing a new supplier.
