As I posted earlier that the difference between the 2.7 and 2.3 wasn't that big I was chastised to "post links or it didn't happen" Well............... 1 mile an hour faster and 3'/10's quicker. In other words whoever hits the gas first wins...
IDK, it feels like the quarter-mile times are lack luster between all of them TBH.
2.3L = 14.8 seconds at 93 mph
2.7L = 14.5 seconds at 94 mph
RR = 14.1 seconds at 97 mph

Passing power is the only advantage really.
If the 2.7 is .6 quicker to 60, no way the 2.3 closes that gap in the quarter mile..Same weight less horsepower...

Driving a truck isn't about drag racing. It is about doing truck things.
Pulling a loaded trailer is just one job where the 2.7 really shines over the 2.3. Done it with both pulling the same trailer with the same load.
I want it all……..I feel the need for speed! 👍🇺🇸👍

These two motors makes me think about the 4.6L modular V8 vs 5.4 in the earlier F150s. My old 4.6 got the job done, pulled some cars, pulled utility trailers, never had an issue but always kinda wanted the 5.4.

No regrets on my 2.7

Exactly! Or the 283 vs 327 scenario back in my early driving days.

Is this the correct answer to the million-dollar question?
Port and direct FI. I've seen some argue that it's DFI only.

Yes. It’s definitely port and direct fuel injection. Same as the Bronco. Same as the base in the current F150.

First instrumented testing of the optional 2.7. Not too shabby.

Car And Driver 2.7 Ranger Tested
I’ve driven the new Ranger with all three engine options. The 2.3 is no slouch. I currently own a 2024 raptor and a 2021 bronco with the 2.7. After thousands of miles in both platforms, I can definitively tell you that the 3.0 in the Ranger is faster mainly because of the 4.27 rear end
With the same gear ratio, the 2.7 would be slightly quicker 0-60. I like the MPG‘s of the 2.7. And since it has both port and direct injection, it is my engine of choice. But there is no way I would give up the Raptor’s capabilities, especially the suspension.
For those of you on the fence about which engine to order, I would advise you to drive both and decide based on your own needs. Since the 2.7 is currently difficult to find in the Ranger platform, perhaps drive a bronco with the bigger engine.

Controversy is over the 3.0 Raptor engines. Ford states in some marketing materials that it has both port and direct, but in the real world the 3.0 is only direct injection.

13.3s yeah right, nobody is getting near these numbers in the real world. Your app is an ego booster at least.
You realize it’s the RR not the 2.7l. Lol. It’s not just an app off the phone. It’s a GPS made by Dragy and I have compared numbers between it and the GNSS GPS I use for my R/C speed run cars. The numbers are accurate and consistent between runs. Only way it could get more accurate is to actually go to a drag strip.

It took a few runs to shave a few tenths off, but relatively consistent.

A non raptor thread once again hijacked, this time by a mythical low 13' Raptor. 😂

Only reason I posted the 13.3 is to show that the 1/4mile times mentioned earlier in this thread can be improved with a tune. I had the 2.3l also and with the tune my 1/4 mile time was 14.1. I bet the 2.7l with a tune will see high 13’s.

I have heard that the 2.7 engine (codename "Nano") -

"According to Ford (as report in Car and Driver on eh 2.7 engine) the Port Injection system is active at low RPM and low loads. As RPM increases mapping moves across to a blend of Port and Direct injection but the Port Injection always has about 10 - 15% of the fuel supply"

I also recall a video from TFL Talkin Trucks with a Ford engineer who speaks positively about it.

I am looking forward to getting mine in my 2025 Ranger order.

I apparently had too much time on my hands one evening, and pondered the 4.27 gearing in my raptor vs the 3.73 in my 19 2.3 ranger. With the 2.3 oem tire diameter vs the 3.0 and the 33 inch oem tires, the final effective drive ratio is basically the same. But really, the stock raptor is not crazy faster than my 2.3 ranger. A large part of that is weight of course. I'm hoping that the Ford tune, with improved intercooler and larger tubes, will increase the acceleration felt "in the seat". Of course, my recently sold gt500 had 800 engine hp, so I have to fight using that as my benchmark.... Grinning
