Raptor stock wheels and 35s? *UPDATED*

I off road hard also. Planning 1in lift front and rear with existing Eibach 2" level. Hoping to clear 35x11.5 KO3s. Got stuck a few times so a lift and 35 are a necessity now.

I also removed my rear. I do off road so for that I'd say it was. If you were straight street driving you might get away with not removing it but I can't say that with 100% certainty. You can buy aftermarket ones that will work.

Do it! Here are 315s with a 1" front strut spacer. Had to remove the driver rear crash bar and trim half an inch or so off the mudflaps. No fender rubbing at full compression with the stock offset. Wider offsets might need a bigger lift or some negative front camber. If I were to do it again I'd go skinny with 35x11.5 tires, but 315s still work great.

Man, I thought I recognized that truck in the pictures you posted. I watch your videos pretty frequently! Your videos were probably one of the main reasons I ended up jumping into the RR. I appreciate your input. I like the look of the 315s you have but think the narrower 35x11.5 would probably suit my taste a little better. I can’t recall but did you end up going above just the 1” lift in the front?

What about a lower width 35x11.5? Do you think the extra inch of clearance would mitigate those issues you saw with the 315/70r17? If I understood your article correctly, going from a 285/70r17 to a 35x11.5r17 would result in an approximate 58.2mm increase in diameter, which means I then need to push the wheel out more than 58.2mm to not have issues? So over a 2 inch spacer would be needed?

edit: just realized you said strut spacer equal to or greater than an increase in diameter, not wheel spacer. So really since I’m getting a 2” strut spacer, do you think the 11.5 would be fine?

Our recommendation is a max of 295 width tyres, so 11.5” is spot on. I personally think that the 35x11.5 is the perfect size for the Ranger Raptors in general. 12.5” wide looks a bit cartoonish. I wish we got more options in this size in Australia.

so yep pair that with a 2” front spacer and 1” rear spacer and you will have a perfect setup

@TheTopher , we used to be neighbors... I lived in Walled Lake.
I moved South and have not missed the long winters with grey skies, potholes, the constant thumping of the highway expansion joints, under-carriage rust, and so on.
The roads her are smooth, and the winters are mild, but the summers can be brutal sometimes.
The summers however in Michigan are PERFECT.... !!!!!!!

Was the front crash bar removal necessary?

I think it was, it was fairly close sitting at ride height and didn't want to chance it.

I was wondering if 11.5 would work better. Which tires did you end up going with?

Sooo has anyone attempted to put the Mickey Thompson 255/85R17 Boss A/T on a stock height RR?

They're a couple inches taller but slightly narrower so maybe/maybe not they'd clear with no rubbing.

I had 255/80R17's on a Wrangler a few years ago and I liked them a lot. I barely have over 1000 miles on our 25 RR so short of getting a wild hair I'm a long way off from needing new tires but if I did and those nearly 35in 255/85R17 Mickey's won't fit under a stock height RR I'd replace the factory tires with a set of 255/80R17 which are a little taller then the factory size at 33+ and a bit narrower.

I may be in the minority but I've always liked tall and narrow aka pizza cutters over tall and wide. They're a hell of a lot lighter that's for sure. I have 37-12.50's on my 24 Rubicon w/3.6 and even with its 4.88's all that extra rotating weight I can barely pull 8th gear at freeway speeds and it needs to be relatively flat. I'd love for my JLUR to have the same power plant our RR does especially now that is has the Ford tune installed.

Looking to put 35s on my 25 RR. I like the stock wheels but I’m unsure if the +55 will force rubbing. I’m also trying to save a buck and not purchase wheels (if possible) and if needed, I am instead looking at potentially just using wheel spacers to get to about a +40 to +35 offset for the tires. Anybody have pictures or suggestions as to whether this would work? I’ve got a strut spacer kit that will be installed as well. 2” in the front, 1” in the back. I’d like this to be useful off-road as well and not just be capable on road.

Decided to try the 35x11.5r17 Toyo R/T Pros. So far it’s great with no clearance issues

Looks great! That is the exact tire I was considering. That or the Mickey Thompson pizza cutter 255/85r17. Wish Mickey Thompson made it in an 11.5 wide. Just not sure how a 10 inch wide tire would look. Did you see a drastic drop of in fuel economy. I was wondering if the Toyos would be way worse in fuel economy than the MT pizza cutters. I want mud traction too, that is why I am really considering those Toyos. Looks like they are about $250 more for a set of 4. If they last about as long, that is well worth it for the added traction.

by the way I love the red accents on your truck. You need to add the red 455hp sticker!

please tell us how you like those tires. I am probably going to pull the trigger on those when these ko3s wear down.

I’ll keep you posted on how the tires do. So far (less than 50 miles), they are a tad noisier than the Ko3s but nothing too dramatic. We are suppose to be getting rain through the weekend down here in Louisiana so I’ll test the wet traction over the next few days.

MPG wise, the truck is having no issues getting to 10th gear with the increased tire diameter. Anecdotally, I do find myself getting into boost a little earlier in the throttle than I’m used too. That could just be me feeling the weight increase of the tires and subconsciously giving it more throttle but it certainly feels like I’m having to press a little more to get the vehicle moving. On the ko3s, I was seeing around 16.4 mpg and it had actually been going up as I’ve been purposely trying to stay out of boost in the city. So far, I’ve yet to see it drop even .1 mpg but, again, I’ve barely driven it with the new tires.

Last night I did the right height recalibration and also updated the tire size in Forscan to fix the Speedo. The truck feels different with the lift and tires but not necessarily in a bad way. The truck can still easily spin the rear wheels from a stop at full throttle and in 4A, the front of the truck actually lifts up way more than before at full throttle. It’s actually pretty fun. Lol

lol exactly! I had other decals on the truck before but it started to feel like a bit much so I took them off and decided to just stick with the red(code orange) accents and the 455hp decals.
