Bought late Dec. 24, If Ronin is saying its good its probably fine but yes I could see your concern.

If you use it I would keep a very close eye on it. Personally if mine fit like that I probably wouldnt have used it. GL.

The revision they made would explain why the gap appears larger (new style) and why some don't. I have the original drain valve so it will likely have a smaller gap when installed.
I'll post some images when I install it. Either way I'd be comfortable with the new or original version.
PS. Good choice for oil. It's all I use in my Ecoboosts.
Thanks for the input. I was thinking the same thing about the increased gap with the new design especially if they were trying to work around the flush tabs on some pans. Their video on the redesign states that either plug works on any pan without the flush tab issue. I'm new to this Pennzoil Ultra but it appears many people like it. Also, it appears to be priced fairly as well.

So you're basically saying you don't trust them to design a drain valve that works with both old and newer pan designs? What design criteria does it not meet?

Thanks, I will definitely be keeping an eye on it. I did put the OEM yellow plug in a ziplock bag in my glove box for a worst case scenario. :)

I just did my first oil change today at 1250 miles and installed the Ronin drain plug which is also their updated version. I installed it per the instructions with the notch at about 7 o'clock, pushed in and turned until it clicked and popped back out a small amount. The concern I have is that the wave washer doesn't compress fully and the Ronin doesn't sit flush to the oil pain hole like seen in the installation videos which I think were done on an F150. I'm curious if anyone else has installed this on their RR and see a similar fitment. It doesn't leak and I can't turn it any further to tighten it and it won't loosen without pushing in and turning to the left. Also the gold cap when installed shows the logo as expected. I tested the drain function with the residual oil in the pan to make sure it all worked before I closed everything up and added the new oil (Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-30). The videos I have found for RRs doesn't show the angle I'm putting in the photo below to see the small gap. I'm going to look for some Bronco Raptor videos as well but just seems a bit odd that it doesn't sit flush. Any inputs are appreciated and hopefully someone can post a picture of their Ronin installed and compare the fitment/gap.

Just Curious. Why do you want this drain plug? What is bad about the stock one?

This is probably one of the worst design decisions from a customer perspective that I have seen Ford do in the last 10-15 years. In my opinion, it is about $. Cheaper to build plastic oil pans and they recommend changing the oil drain plug often which is just more $ they want the customer to spend. Now if you take it to the dealer to change the oil and they charge you for a new oil drain plug, are they really putting in a new one? I just prefer to change my own oil and the Ronin plug makes it a lot cleaner to do.

I wouldn't be worried about the gap, Ronin's webpage shows the same amount.

Ford Ranger Ronin Oil Drain Plug installed on '25 Ranger Raptor (Fitment Concerns) Ronin normal

The purpose of the wavy washer is to keep tension on the insert to keep it from rotating off the 2 nubs in the pan. The Ronin insert, just like the factory plug, has to be pressed in and turned to be removed.

As long as there is tension it won't back out. If anything, I'd prefer a larger gap as it shows the insert is being pushed back out and locked in place.

Here's mine for comparison:

As for why we would want this plug, coupled with a section of 3/8" tubing, oil changes are easy and as clean as possible. I drain the oil straight into a container that I can take to hazardous waste disposal, vs draining into a pan, then emptying the pan into another container, and trying to clean everything up without making a mess.

Prior to the Ronin plug, I used a pliable sheet funnel that helped direct the oil, great product by the way. But the Ronin is so much better. No mess at all and I'm just a mess in general when I work.

didn't the 3.5 have a plastic oil pan that caused lots of problems for people. so much that ford went back to the metal pan after 3 years or so?

Great write-up. I totally missed the picture on their site with that gap before I started this thread as it looks pretty much like the picture I took after install. I loved the Ronin on my F150 and was just concerned with the fitment and that gap. However, I will say their support replied multiple times on Sat and Sun and explained the redesigned plug and I was impressed by that. I am no longer worried and will enjoy the cleaner oil changes. Is this on a Bronco Raptor? I like that skid plate access hole for oil changes.

Glad you're at ease!

It's a Ranger Raptor, but I swapped the factory skid plate for the Rival skid plate with the access panel. I like it but realistically it's just 2 less bolts and removing a smaller panel vs the whole plate.

Yeah, I wasn't bothered by the factory plate removal as it is pretty easy. I'm more interested in something that extends further back and protects the transmssion as well. I'll take a look at the 3rd party skid plates.

Definitely recommend that, especially the trans and gas tank. Lots of options out there now.

I agree that I'm not worried about the slightly compressed spring, mine looks the same and it did pop out as it turned to the 12:00 position. there is little if no internal pressure it's holding back so I'm looking forward to using it on the next oil change!

Thanks to the others who suggested this and put some tin foil up on the initial oil gush change!!
