Yet another annoyance remedied by a bit of CAD and some 3D printing. This time it was to create seatbelt holders to stop the flapping when the windows are open, and to keep them from contacting the seat. I have passengers about 0.5% of the time, so the rest of the time I'd rather have the belts more secured. I could not find any commercial solutions. Maybe I'm searching for the wrong terms? Either way... 3D printing to the rescue. Again.

I'm trying to get better about posting the models so here it is for anyone who wants to print a set:

I like that idea. I've noticed those flapping around too.

ive had no luck getting anything to stick to the plastic in the back. one hot day and it comes loose.

3m vhb and all

Maybe it would still work if they clipped to the other side...... hmmmm

True, they’ve only been on there a day and it wasn’t hot. We shall see if the tape survives this week. Supposed to be in the mid 80s. So not hot… but warmer than today

i so need these. my passenger front seat belt always taps the trim piece it runs parallel to and i hate it. i pull it over so its leaning against the seat but having a clip to hold it from flapping / tapping would be awesome.

and if that tape doesn't work, with how close that color matches, you could easily just put a small bolt and attach it to the trim and people would think it was a factory part

I've seen these posted for sale a few times, like ebay or Amazon links. No idea what they are called. Edit: oh, and everyone has replied the tape failed on them, too).

Anyway, I found that by flipping the buckle over, it fits nicely into the slot the belt retracts into. They eventually pop out over time, usually I go months before noticing them flapping around. I also keep the rear windows partially up because of the dog cover for the back seat, so YMMV.

So far the tape did not hold on the front seat holder. I think the plastic trim is slightly curved so that is reducing surface area, combined with the seatbelt pulling away, and the difficulty of getting good pressure on the tape. I may try to remodel with the ever-so-slight curve. And maybe see if I can get some better tape. 3M VHB is supposed to be good up to 200°F

If that doesn't work, the next attempt will be one that clips onto the top of that plastic bit

Ive just always kept my seatbelts latched in everything ive ever owned. Done that since I started driving. No problems with belts flapping!!!

Just a tip for you guys that use double sided tape. They have a 3M tape primer that quadruples the sticking strength of the adhesive. I've used it for body panels and applied correctly it's damn hard to remove.

Be sure to clean the area with IPA.

I always use 99.99% IPA. I was thinking of using adhesion promoter after I confirmed these work the way I wanted. Might do it anyway. I have some real 3M 5952 coming in today and a promoter "pen" left over from a tailgate seal kit.

Also remodeled that front one to add a slight curve to the mounting surface. I'll try that one with the above tape/promoter and report back

Back ones are holding so far

Update:

It was mid 80s the other day. The Scotch Extreme tape didn't hold, even on the back. So I removed all the holders, then reinstalled the rears and the new curved front one with genuine 3M VHB. I used adhesion promoter. So try #2 on whether or not they stay stuck
