We're finally ready to go!

Leaving tomorrow morning from Oregon for Idaho, Wyoming, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, then back though Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, California, Oregon. A 2 month road trip touching 19 states, visiting a at least a dozen National Parks and stay in 2 of the grand lodges (Old Faithful Inn & El Tovar,) see 5 cave systems, drive a couple hundred miles of Route 66, visit my childhood homes, stop at only the finest tourist traps, and just generally enjoy the ride…

Highlights include Yellowstone, Mt Rushmore, Pensacola Beach, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Galveston, San Antonio, Sonora Caverns, Carlsbad Caverns, Roswell, Gallup, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Moab, Escalante, Zion, Hoover dam, Bodie ghost town, Lassen.

I’ll post some pictures of the RR visiting places from time to time as we go. ;-)
Looks like we'll have snow in Yellowstone.

Truck is loaded up, finishing up closing up the house.

WOW!!! 😲

That is one heck of a road trip. I'm a little jealous lol. Keep the pics coming over the summer and drive safe out there.

I love looong road trips in my RR, but I am holding off this year because of #$%^&* gas prices. I will stick to short local trips for a while.

Good luck, your truck is a killer road tripper.

What are you doing for nav? I strongly recommend a stand alone gps. You will be in cell phone deserts very often.... you can't go wrong with a Garmin DriveSmart 76. $250 at Amazon.... plus onX Offroad on your phone. My iPhone streams it very well and it is drop dead gorgeous on that big center screen. It also works on Android Auto.

I have the native nav and android auto (Google maps.)
Something else that's actually quite useful is MyRadar. It's accurate, real time, and overlays the android auto map. Plus gives weather warnings.
But I generally don't use car nav. Never cared for it.
I have paper maps!
And printed route maps from my computer.
Wife requested maps for every state we'll visit. They also sent Visitors guides. Free!

Now THATS what I call a bucket list road trip! Can’t think of a better vehicle for it than the RR.
Have a blast, drive safe & post lots of pics.

We are doing 3000 mile mini trip in August, with the first destination Tooele UT for a little driving experience. Then we are going to take a couple weeks checking out the state and national parks and monuments in that area before heading back to the Bay Area.

Have a great trip. I usually take a trip out west every summer but gas and shoulder surgery recovery is going to kill that this year.

I like My Radar too but make sure you opt out of data sharing in privacy settings. Also check it frequently after updates to make sure it didn’t get enabled again.

When you're in the area visiting Mt. Rushmore, do NOT miss Crazy Horse! Just a few miles away.

Large scale paper maps are a fine backup, but they have nowhere near the detail and points of interest of a good “overlander” database. There are countless destinations in the West that are shown as blank spots on your state maps….

If you never plan to get off pavement, then it is a moot point, but in that case, why are you even driving a RR?

Have a safe and fun drive man. The wife and i did something similar last year in our 4runner before we bought the Raptor. We left SE Virginia and drove thru West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada and Arizona. We stopped in Moab, Vegas, Grand Canyon, Sedona and Mesa. On the way home we left Arizona and drove thru New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and then home. 6100 miles or less. Never been out west before and it was so cool seeing things I’d ever only seen on tv or in movies. We have one BEAUTIFUL nation!

Sounds like a fun trip., and you look well-prepared.

Let us know how much you end up spending on gas. I drove from Chicago to southern Tennessee and it cost me $120 one way.
