I just wrapped up installing sound deadener inside all four doors - MASSIVE difference in the tinny, hollow sound (post forthcoming)

I have some left over material and I was thinking: Has anyone taken the panel off the inside of the tailgate and installed sound deadener inside the tailgate? When the truck locks and unlocks the "ka-thunk" coming from the back is quite loud, and I was thinking it might be worth it to make that tailgate less hollow

Looks like 12 screws... I might open it up anyway just to have a look.

Anyone else either thought of this, or done it?

Yeah, once you remove those screews a top plate should be able to be removed. I encountered this when installing tailgate matt.

Wait… you’ve got leftover material and aren’t going to do the roof?

I don't have enough to get the roof, so I need to order more anyway.

That is a project for another day. But it WILL happen

The biggest issue is you can't get to the bottom half due to the internal structure

Definitely helped with the "ka-thunk" when locking/unlocking, and the tailgate feels a bit more solid when closing it. Worth it for 20 minutes and 3 sheets of Siless

Just a T20. There are 12 screws and then the panel just lifts off

LITERALLY just did my roof yesterday! Did all 4 doors last weekend. Did the 2 layer method in the doors with a layer of 120mm and then a layer of hybrid 3in1.
After all the time & fiddling to get the headliner dropped I went heavy and did 3 layers and added a second layer of the hybrid. Then shaved all the blocks in the headliner down a heavy 1/4” to accommodate the added thickness. Figured this was going to be the one & only time the h/l was going to be dropped so go big. Wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. Just “A LOT” of small work at each & every pillar panel, grab handles, back glass, and of course the sun visors and all the electronics at the windshield. Was methodical with it and didn’t break or lose anything and it all went back together like a glove.
Just driving it around town last night with the addition of the doors and all I can say is WOW! What a difference. The interior is massively quieter, but it’s the stereo, which I’ve also upgraded to a Hertz 10” sub running off a RF Punch 300.1, Focal tweeters & door speakers, and an Infinity 2-way in the center channel, literally rips your head off now with all the sound deadener installed.

So is it worth it? In my opinion the doors & roof have been worth every dollar in deadener and even more so all the time it has taken. I’d do it again tomorrow if I had to! Wouldn’t think twice.

Looks excellent!

This will definitely be a project I will tackle this year... just burned out from the combo of being sick and still attempting projects.

I also need to think if there are any other items I want to do while the headliner is down. Like running wiring for a rear dash cam, antenna, etc. Even if they aren't used right away.

Now with a bunch of the leftover deadener you’ve got me thinking why not toss a couple sheets into the tailgate. Wouldn’t hurt and if it changes it into more a thud when closing then it’ll be worth the effort.

Is there a potential problem with water running down into the tailgate and affecting the sound deadener - running into the mating area and possibly freezing there? Your doors have good lower seals to stop that, the gate is wide open to the elements, unless you seal it up well.

Thanks,

I did the tailgate and definitely muffled the lock and feels more solid shutting it, the weight of the sheet I used didn't effect the strut or torsion bar much at all, pretty easy and I think it's worth it
