I took a Day trip up into the Uinta’s Sunday to get out of the heat & hang out by a Creek in Murdock Basin. I have 275/70 R17 Toyo Open Country AT’s, stock FX4 shocks, Go Rhino D6 running boards & a ARE topper. I was looking into an Alu Cab Contour Canopy but could not justify it being that I’m only going to be putting Bikes & Paddle boards on the roof & not roof top tents or awnings. If I was going to load up the topper with a tent & other equipment I would have gone Alu Cab. I like the look of the ARE being paint matched & got the windoors & roof rack attachments that I wanted as well. I still need to put my Thule racks on the roof of the shell. I will put them on before my Montana trip next week. I would like to lift the front end by 1” to 1-1/2” at some point & maybe add some lights. I’m not looking to add too much to the Ranger being a daily driver & road tripper. As for off road, I’m not looking to get into any crazy rock crawling at all. I’m doing more back-country roads & trails in the mountains & desert from Utah, Idaho & Montana. So far it goes everywhere my 4Runner did so I’m happy.

Nice looking rig. Your use is about the same as mine here in NV.

Did you notice much speedometer error after the tire change?

Yes, it’s 2MPH off over 65 & up. So, 70mph is riley 72mph. I check it with a GPS app on my phone.

Do the bigger tires on stock suspension rub at all? Been debating going a little bigger once my tires are worn. Maybe 265 or 275..

Is it possible to fit the rear quarter panel bed steps to an RR?
Wish that was an option from the factory

Yes but only 1 side as some of the stuff underneath gets in the way.

Man that’s it! I’ve been teeter tottering on canopy brands for months now. I had an A.R.E. on my previous F-150 and loved it. Been seriously considering them again for my RR, but thought something else might be the ticket and thought a change was in order…..
Seeing the A.R.E. on yours THAT’s IT! I’m placing my order this week. I’m done toying with the whole black modular/black stainless. That color matched A.R.E. is THE look my gut keeps grooving back to!
Thanks for inadvertently tipping my scale on what to do! Seriously, I’m placing the order on an A.R.E. today or tomorrow. I’ve already been into the canopy dealer twice now and walked both times to ‘mull it over’. That’s over with, HA!
Sweet pics!

You missed out on the sale that ended June 26. Ask your dealer if they can still offer the same price. My CX was something like $500 off.

Nice! I’ll get it! They can get creative on a cash discount or cover the tax. I’ll persuade/charm the hell out of them. Thanks!

I’m going to keep my truck for a while, so I wanted a topper from an established brand. I was going to get the Alu Cab Contour canopy with the side windows. I think they are one of the best built toppers out there. They are now $4800. With the tax in UT ($390) & the install ($650 Crazy) it was going to be close to $6000. I like the look of the Smart Caps but over time they can leak & I know they also had problems with the lock’s latches coming open. The only thing about the Alu Cab I didn’t like was the gap between the cab & the topper. I went & got a quote from a local ARE dealer & out the door with the tracks on the roof for my rack, opening side glass windoors, LED lights, install ($150) & tax out the door was $3600. I have a trailer so I’m not overloading my roof & putting a lot of crap in the racks when I go camping. After that I had a hard time justifying the Alu Cab. Also I understand that company’s need to make money but why the Overland place charges $650+ to install a topper & the ARE dealer only charges $150. I have had 2 others ARE toppers since the 90s & the only thing I ever had to replace was the struts & that was after several years of use. They have a great warranty, USA made & they don’t use proprietary parts like SnugCap. I will say having the side opening windoors is nice, so I don’t have to climb in the back of my truck to get stuff out. The bed liner is rough on the knees & my ranger’s tail gate is as tall as an F-150. Now after having the ARE topper for just a few months I do not regret not getting the Alu Cab or Smart Cap at all. The ARE is cleaner & they did a good job with the paint match as well. I nerded out on Canopy’s/Shell’s before buying this one & it has everything I wanted & looks good as well. I’m happy with it. If you need any pic’s let me know.

That's the V-series, right?
