On another note in a completely hilarious coincidence the new season of Jack reacher is out on prime video and the last episode is called proof of concept. Not going to spoil anything but you can pretty much conclude what this final season story was all about.

You must mean Jack Ryan. Jack Reacher only has one season.

Pretty much the Pandemic was worse in more ways than one. It pretty much showed that all you need to do is cause a major disruption and you'll get what you want.
When you train everyone to live in perpetual convenience at all times, people will give everything up just to return to that convenience, if it becomes disrupted.

Not to swerve into tin foil hat conspiracy crap but it's hard not to think of the whole covid pandemic is what we refer to in fabrication land as "proof of concept".

😭😆
And certain people had been warning of such a "proof of concept" since the 90s (if not earlier) and everyone told them it would/could never happen here.

Now watch as the same people responsible continue gaslighting the rest of us that they didn't act how we all remember them acting 🙄

Yes sorry I meant Jack Ryan.

I did also watch Jack reacher when it came out on prime video and while the first episode was amusing every episode after got worse and worse and came off like a show out of the '80s. 😆

So when might this strike happen? Is the current contract up?

Contracts discussions began Thursday, July 13th, 2023. Go to post #1 if you want to know what is at stake and why.

yeah I saw that, just wasn't sure when it might happen. I know some negotiate for a month or two then strike while other do it for 6 months.

Sounds like my 9-18 build date is going to get pushed. I just don't see an agreement happening in that time.

I think we all are Wags. I just read an article that "experts" feel there is 90% chance of a strike, the most optimistic is 50/50. Interestingly, while of course wages are a concern, it seems much of the tension is over E.V. vehicles and that those employees are not UAW covered.

The below is a portion from the CHICAGO TRIBUNE EDITORIAL BOARD

"Even if the automakers agree to shell out considerably more pay, that still leaves the biggest threat to the union unresolved. In fact, the most far-reaching item on the UAW wish list probably will be impossible for the automakers to grant in full, at least without ruining their business prospects."

"Union autoworkers are concerned, about the global transition to electric vehicles. As of now, EVs are a relatively small part of the North American marketplace. But they’re clearly the future, and everything from the way they’re made to the politics behind them stands to weaken the UAW in the years ahead."

It’s going to be next year, at least late spring or even summer before any of us see these trucks I believe. If the UAW walks out & stands their ground it’s going to be a long wait time.

Agreed on both points gentleman. Hopefully it works out reasonable and fair for all involved with a workable solution found. It seems reasonable that it is generally the best for the companies, the employees, AND consumers sooner then later. There would be nothing at all wrong with that for ALL of us!
