Both my Mustang GT's (20 and 22) and my 19 F150 Raptor (I think) would show what gear I'm in but I can't figure out, if possible, how to get my display to tell me which one I'm in on my 25 Ranger Raptor.

Any ideas? Is this possible?

On my 2025 Ranger Lariat they only way I can get it to pop up is to push the manual shift button on gear shift. I also have had other Fords that would show it all the time but not this truck. Every time I shift into drive I push the +/- button and it pops up on dash.

Also shows up when in off road and other modes. I think the "Normal mode" is meant for everyday scenarios and Ford assumed you wouldn't want to know what gear you're in in such a scenario.

I don’t know why ford didn’t just leave it on at all times or add an option to do that.

however, once you see what it is doing in eco and normal, there is not a lot of reason to see what it is doing.

if you want it to shift earlier, up or down, there are the other modes and then the gear display pops up.

Another feature, if you push the + button, it displays the current gear. If you quickly hit the - button, it will take lock out the top gears one by one. So, you could hit +, then - and lock out 10,9, etc with each press of -.

Progressive Range Selection in Drive (D)
Use this feature to prevent your vehicle from automatically shifting to high gears. The instrument cluster displays the current gear and the highest gear available.
Note: Your vehicle automatically shifts within the gear range you select.
Note: We recommend using this feature for engine braking, driving on hilly or mountainous roads, or when towing a trailer. See Towing a Trailer.
  • Press the lower (-) button to switch the feature on.
  • Press the lower (-) button to disable the next highest gear.
  • Hold the upper (+) button for a few seconds to switch the feature off.

either + or -turns on the feature and you can see the gear on the display

hit - again to lower the top gear

hit + to raise the top gear

hit + in 10th gear to turn it off

i had not seen that you could hold the + down in another gear to turn it off 👍

I wonder if in sport mode and other modes where the gear is displayed if the top gear limiting is already active?

that might explain why the gear display is off in normal and eco modes

My understanding is this is to turn off the gear lock out mode, not to lock out any particular gear.

Sport doesn't automatically lock out gears, if that's what you are asking. and I've never tried locking out gears in Sport mode.

It’ll show the gear in all modes besides normal. Not sure why that was the choice, but it is

Sport doesn't automatically lock out gears, if that's what you are asking. and I've never tried locking out gears in Sport mode.
I just drove around the block.

if you see the gear you are in, you are in gear lock out mode.

so for example, if you hit the - button while in sport mode, it will move the lock out gear down one. If you hold the - down it will start stepping down the lockout gears

versus

if your in a mode that doesnt have the gear displayed, eco, normal.

hitting either + or - will enter gear lock out mode

you then have to release it and then hit the - to lower the lockout gear

you get out of the mode at lest in eco or normal

buy holding down the + button or just clicking it a few times until it gets to 10th gear and then one more click and the gear display goes away

Nice to know. I've never had the need to lock out gears in my '24. But my '21 I did, otherwise I'd get into 8th gear at 40 mph. That was before I started to switch to tow mode each time I started the '21.

FYI the Raptor does not do this, it is instead "live in drive", so the paddles work the same as they are in manual mode when you are in drive, and it reverts to automatic after a period of time where you don't use the paddles. All other Rangers with the +/- buttons on the shifter are as you describe (Raptors don't have these buttons).

Yeah, pressing the + button activates the gear display, I found out one day, I pressed the botton without noticing and the display popped up.
