I wanted to get a 2.3l on a 2025 but it is very hard to find with the options I want. What are yall thinking about the 2.7 v6? Ei fuel mileage and reliability.

Smooth as butter. The 2.7 is the reason I bought the Ford Ranger, I think it's the best engine in the mid-size class. I'm getting low 20"s mpg local driving, have not taken it on any long trips yet. The engine has been used in other Fords and it has a good track record. Change the oil more frequently than recommended and I don't think you will have a problem with these engines.

No issues so far at 21000 miles. Although gas mileage went down to 12 mpg doing 70 mph in the mountains of WV on the freeway. Normal mpg is 19.8 for our 2.7L.

You can get decent gas mileage if you don't smash the gas pedal. But it's such a spirited engine that it's hard not to take it slow and easy, this engine too easily puts a smile on your face. Using eco mode helps a lot too. Some folks like the transmission shifts in eco mode best, personally I'm not a fan, it seems like the engines lugs in eco mode. Normal mode is where I keep it. Sport mode is ridiculous. Ridiculously fun and ridiculously poor gas mileage.

Absolutely love it. Granted, I'm only 1,000 miles in. I have no concerns over the longevity, given it is used in so many Ford vehicles. It was the deciding factor for me. I considered the Tacoma, but I will not buy a 4-cylinder engine for a truck. It is very smooth, and I love the acceleration.

About 6700mi in on my '24 XLT and have no complaints (about the engine). It's a big part of the reason I went with the Ranger over the GM twins. I'm getting ~22mpg on the highway at around 75mph empty and I get ~12mpg at 75mph towing my track car on an open trailer (~5000lb). Tech has all been good and the tow package and trailer brake system are working great. My only gripe on these trucks is the physical key on anything below a Lariat.

Only have 1000 miles on mine but I agree, it's pretty spirited. During break in I was babying it, got 18.4 MPG around town, I'm sure that will drop now, may try Eco mode to see if it makes a difference.

I had the 2.3L in my 2021 Ranger Lariat. I have just over 5kmi on the 2.7L and I’ll take the 2,7L over the 2.3L all day long, even with the 4mpg hit in gas mileage. As others have mentioned, very smooth, very spirited, a pure please to drive.

A bit off topic but..... there was a guy on the F150 forum that traded his 2.7 F150 in with 460,000 miles. I think the only issue he ever had was he had to replace 1 sensor. But @ 460K the transmission was starting to act flakey so he decided it was time to trade it.

Just under 10k miles on my XLT with 2.7. I would not purchase another ranger without the V6. I previously owned one with a 2.3. I do a fair amount of towing.

You know you can order one and get exactly the options you want. That's what I did.

Agree with the above statements! Just crossed 1600 miles and it is 21 MPG in the metro and about 23mpg on the interstate at 75MPH (2k rpms)

Sport mode with traction control off is more fun than my Mustang! (don't tell my Mustang club members!)

30000km in since Nov, i'm getting 11.3L/100km summer, and 12.4L/100km winter.
My morning commute is above 130kmh, evening commute varies, but rarely over 110kmh. about 80km each way. Its enjoyable to easily hit the speed limiter when passing someone.
The smoothness is a positive, the power is there when i need it, even when the trans is acting like a douche. It seems to be more responsive the higher the octane, but since i'm burning though a tank every 3 days, I'm going for the low grade 87 for bank account relief. No problems reported.

2000 smiles on mine now and just love driving it. I had a very nice Expedition before the Ranger and I think the ride is very similar. Had the 3.5 in the Expedition but I'm thinking Ranger is faster. No complaints on the 2.7. Think I will change oil every 5000 miles
