Choosing a new vehicle is a big decision. Maybe you fell in love with the design, needed more room for the family, wanted something fun to drive, or were drawn to the latest tech and features. Everyone has their own reasons for picking a truck, and sometimes the story behind that choice is just as interesting as the vehicle itself.

Now that you've spent some time with your Ranger, we're curious: what ultimately made you choose it over the other options? And looking back, would you make the same choice again?

Share your story in the comments! We'd love to hear what made your Ranger the right fit for you. Your experience might even help someone who's still deciding on their next ride.

I've had my Jeep Rubicon for the past 16 years. Wanted to buy a truck next. I originally wanted a Tacoma TRD Pro since my buddy had one and loved it, but then I noticed in 2024 they switched to a hybrid which I don't want. I then looked into the Colorado ZR2 bison, but noticed it came with a 4 cylinder. I wanted something with a V6. My buddy then told me the Ranger came with a V6. I originally told him I didn't want a ranger since I wanted a sportier truck, he then told me that there was a Raptor version. When looking into the Raptor, I noticed it was nothing like the regular ranger. I ended up going to the dealer to check them out and I purchased one the same day. I love this truck, it's so fun to drive. Big upgrade in technology from my 2010 Jeep. I'm always finding excuses to go out for a ride 😀

As for would I buy it again, it's only been a lil over a month since i've owned it but yes, I would do it again. So far I did a full body XPEL Ultimate Plus wrap with gtechniq ceramic coating, installed a stubby antenna, added the Signature Lux amber DRL'S with the three grill lights from moustas and an insert for the tailgate raptor emblem.

It was the only Raptor variant I could afford aka the "budget Raptor". But seriously, I think this truck fit a better balance between size, cost, utility and character.

I'm not the biggest fan of giant luxury vehicles and full sized pickups having come from the performance car world where 3,000 to 3,800 lbs was the norm for vehicle weight. I have family that owned Jeeps, Explorers and 80's era Bronco's, friends with Jeeps and a Tahoe.

So, I kinda also grew around mid-sized 4x4's that were used mostly for daily driving and occasional fun off-road. For me, the price was a big factor as it is for many with families, but I could have bought a nice Jeep, Bronco, Taco or other 4x4 in this price range.

The RR checked all the boxes in probably the most well rounded and versatile package.

1. Reded headed stepchild hoonigan machine trying it's best to be a sports car? CHECK! With a Pro Cal + Intercooler, this truck is untouchable by anything else in the mid-sized segment and rivals the V8 road-oriented pickups in raw acceleration like the Silverado 1500 with the 6.2L, Fords Power Boost F-150's or the new Ram highest trim 1500's with the Hurricane 3.0L (not RHO).

2. Reasonable level of practical utility for family trips, camping, Home Depot runs etc.? Check!

3. Versatile enough to act as a blank canvas for different applications over its life (i.e., you can do a 2" lift and 35's for trail / wheelin' or you can keep it with stock suspension and 33's for a more lightweight and handling oriented package with still very good off-road capability, at least as much as any other vehicle on 33's). Check!

4. Engine and cooling system built for abuse, with a CGI engine block that is quite robust, cast in steel ring liners and oil cooling galleys in the pistons all borrowed from Power Stroke 6.7L diesel tech.

5. Mature powertrain. The 10R60 came out in 21' in the Explorer ST's, 22' in the Bonco's and is based off of the 10R80. The 10R80 had teething pains from 2018 to 2023 until they fixed a few design issues and manufacturing issues. Most of what's been out in production since 24 and up is pretty well ironed out aside from occasional defects whicl all companies experience to varying degrees.

6. One of the few mid-sized trucks / SUV's with 4 Auto. Aka "Truck AWD" is really nice for inclement weather like snow, heavy rain etc. where you don't necessarily want 4H but also 2H is a bit sketchy.

7. Literally the ONLY factory pickup truck in any class with a Watts Link. That does a lot for handling at higher speeds. Any track rat coming over from performance car world will tell you how much stability and predictability matters at the edge of traction. Live axles are most stable with Watts, either that or use an IRS, but IRS isn't typically well suited to truck duty for towing etc. because it takes up too much room where the bed needs to be. IRS can absolutely handle heavy loads and be tuned as such, but it's physical size is what limits it's utility out back for pickups (hence why the Honda Ridgeline has sucky bed space compared to other trucks).

8. Made my first pickup truck a special one. It doesn't drive like a typical truck. Steering and handling is very buttoned down and it gives off a Side x Side kinda vibe. It's fun to drive even when I'm not hammering the throttle, so this truck is far more than a "one truck pony". In some ways, it's kinda like the Miata of trucks. It's just fun to drive regardless of whether I'm going to Home Depot, a back woods trail or back county road!

9. The chassis is heavily reinforced and can take serious abuse, something the ZR2 Bison cannot which tends to literally fold in half when jumped hard!

10. Price point. It offers all this at a better overall price than say the Taco TRD Pro (which also doesn't fit my family needs with it's literally useless back seat). The Trail Hunter is heavy and slow, with a 0-60 just over 7 seconds, people noted slow and inconsistent transmission tuning etc. Just not something I wanted in a "performance UTV", but that might be ok for trail work.

11. Fox Live valve 2.5's are best in class. Are there better upgrade options? Sure, but for stock shocks, they do very well and that is also one thing that sets it apart from other trucks in its class. It can take hard hits and almost "wants" to be driven fast because the higher damping rates are tuned for speed. That is something the other trucks just don't do as well, especially the trail trucks like Jeeps etc. where the dampers are soft and optimized for lower speeds.

Yes, you can JUMP IT and I did and will do so again and again. Its a keeper unless life issues were to force me to part with it for some reason.

Like Redturbomr2 I had a Jeep Wranger JKU for 13 years and figured we'd try a truck again, had an 1988 Ranger.
As to choosing there things come to mind:
1. Had to fit in my garage. Older design thus only a few pickups fit.
2. Leg room, being tall had to install Big Boy seat brackets in my Jeep.
3. Dealer(s close by we have two

I had a 2021 Ranger XLT and had no reason to trade it off, but I really wanted a V6. I looked hard at the 2026 XLT's and Lariats, but tunes weren't available for those, and I thought to myself, if I am going to upgrade, I might as well go big. The Raptor already had about everything I would add on anyway. Plus I really liked the dual exhaust. So a Marsh Gray Raptor showed up at a local dealer for just under MSRP, and I thought I'll just go have a look-see. Ended up driving it home. It is so nice! Didn't want an F150, too big.
It drove great as built, but then I got GooseTuned and holy crap! It is so fun to drive.
Oh, and yes I would do it again.

Had a 2019 F150 Platinum and the replacement cost was way too high sold it to a neighbor, being retired and not needing to tow heavy and wanted something a little smaller decided on a Ranger. The Ranger Raptor came available at a below MSRP price and decided what the heck. Puts a smile on my face when ever I drive it. Too bad the 2027 will have Active X seat material instead of Leather

RR because it is here the only Raptor available that you can get registered without speed limited to 90km/h.
Other car manufacturers do no offer anything nice, pickup style trucks over here.
So the choice was easy and I would make the same choice again.

I was looking for an affordable mid-sized truck for a few years. Disclosure: I worked at a Ford dealer for 10 years until I retired this year.

I wasn't impressed with the 5G Ranger when it came out. and since our dealership group offered a variety of brands I considered the Canyon and Colorado when I got serious last year. I really liked the 4WD Auto function on the GM twins, but wasn't as enthused about their engine.

After driving the 6G Ranger I was impressed with the smoothness and response of the 2.3L as well as the ride quality and overall quietness. I also felt the Ranger offered the best features that I wanted for the price.

Very pleased with my choice, and was so glad when they offered the 2025 in Ruby Red.

My 25 ranger is almost 11 months old I love it. I heavily researched the mid-size trks. Reliable, it got a little bigger, more comfortable, improved ride. I drove a pre 2019 ranger ,way too small. Wasn't interested in a Frontier,or Gladiator with v6. A turbocharged vehicle was a big jump n worry for me. Ford seems to have resolved transmission issues. Reliability, ill take my chances with 2.3 ecoboost vs toyota or chevy, Its been around a while n seems very reliable. It makes good power n good mpg.
Mine hasn't been terrible. But im not crazy about so many recalls. Now I guess Ill see how well modern vehicle electronics hold up.
All full size trucks too big and too expensive to suit me.

I came from the jdm tuner world had a 2002 wax that was modified to good but stop driving because it was just not as comfortable anymore and had no tech in it. I was spending most my time driving a 2015 Toyota corolla or the wife's 21 ascent, finally sold the wax and waited maybe a year or so till I picked up a 2022 wax limited. I really liked the new wax but it just was not doing it for me. I had the 22 wax for about 3 years and put 6k miles on it and while having it was doing home improvements and thats when the whole really need a truck came into play. I was looking at TRX at first but the size was to much so was the f150 then I seen Ranger had a Raptor model and was like dang I want to see these, took a few months to finally find one out of state after getting the run around from my local dealer. I used the ford site to track down the color and options I wanted and thats how I was able to get mine right as it landed.

1. My previous Maverick kept its value well after 4.5 years.

2. I wanted a more off-road vehicle.

3. Rangers were sitting on lots. Mine was nearly 20% off MSRP.

4. Nothing else in the midsize segment made sense to me from a features/price perspective.

5. Oh yeah. The 2.7. 😎

Boo.

Stop trying to data mine and sell crap with AI generated threads.

I see the same prompt on the Maverick forum.

Got rid of my F350 Powerstroke because it was bigger than my needs called for, planned on getting an F150 till I test drove one and discovered it was just as big as the F350 so decided on a Ranger. I did go look at and drive Chevy and Toyota just to confirm the Ford was best choice, although I am Ford biased.

The comfort of the Ranger is acceptable enough although not like the bigger trucks, but I just couldn't justify a bigger truck for our needs, besides that parking a behemoth truck in town was always a PITA.
