New TURBOSMART Intercooler (Installation Pics)

Turbosmart just released their intercooler for the ranger raptor v6 and I immediately purchased one.
The quality is immaculate. Size is around 75% more than stock,
it has a maintenance drain for condensation and blow-by.
It is compatible with oem charge pipes and oem front shutter shroud.
The only thing that is removed is the rear shutter shroud.

Results are in. I noticed an almost 20% improvement in temps. Truck will not get into heat soak after repeated pulls, it just keeps giving performance every time. Where as with the oem intercooler you notice drop in performance immediately after 2 hard pulls. Tested this in Cyprus morning and night summer weather.

Any noticeable increase in turbo lag due to the increased size of the IC? And you did leave the front shutters in place, correct?

No increase in turbo lag, engine actually feels stronger and more consistent due to decreased temps.
That’s right front shutter are left untouched.

Thanks for the post! Def interested. Any concerns with the loss of the rear shutters? Not quite sure but I think they help pull in air when not in motion? I may be completely wrong.

You are absolutely right that’s what they do. Because of the very cheap quality oem intercooler (I have never seen a worse quality intercooler in my life) truck needs to start the radiator fans to pull air through the intercooler to cool it.
There is not one aftermarket intercooler that keeps the rear shroud in my knowledge. The better quality bar/plate intercoolers flow and cool more efficient than the oem one and even when not moving cooling is still present.
The front shutters however, I wouldn’t recommend removing because they help warm up the engine in winter. Otherwise I would definitely recommend this upgrade.

Awesome. it’s great to see more come to market. I wonder how this compares to the Wagner and Cobb intercooler? I have yet to install my Wagner IC.

I thinking I'll pick up this same unit this fall, Does the maintenance drain plug come preinstalled? Is there just some thread sealant on it? Tapered plug? is it even really necessary?, at what intervals would you "drain"? Whats really going to come out of there? I have a long history of modding turbo cars in the early 2000's and this is a first seeing this...

It does come preinstalled. I haven't tampered with it. It is an allen key plug. I assume it is for oil/condensation blowby produced by these ecoboost engines if you haven't installed an oil catch can. The day before, I emptied my oil catch can and to my surprise I removed around an oz of blow by oil. All that would have ended into my hot charge pipes and eventually sit in my intercooler.
