You must not recognize that the dealer model and having sales people will be a thing of the past? Most OEM's are moving to a Metaverse model - you pick and choose online and never have to deal with a sales person. Ford CEO has gone on record many times talking about the poor sales commission model as it's just leads to greed.

Same will be happening in real-estate. Brokers will be out as the middle person. It's all in the works.
And I probably would prefer a direct to consumer model. But that doesn’t change the world we live in now. Sales persons aren’t getting rich off your back. Dealership owners are. Direct your frustration at them. They’re the one lobbying against changes to the current model.

My frustration? Look in the mirror guy. You're as bitter as they come.

Side bar; I can say without a doubt, from my anecdotal observations on here, nearly 100% of the people harping about ADM are bitter and all 100% of those who did pay an ADM are not bitter at all.

You must not recognize that used cars are actually a bigger profit maker for dealers than new car sales? Or that all buyers are not young and/or tech-savvy enough to handle a complex purchase like this on-line? Even IF manufacturers moved exclusively to on-line new car ordering (seems unworkable IMO) they won't be shipping individual units to every single buyer at home. Would not be cost effective and there simply isn't a big enough network of auto transport trucks + drivers to ever make this feasible. You would still go receive your new Ford, GM, Kia at a dealership of some type so you can inspect in person and finalize transaction. They would also still be your Consumer facing contact point for warranty work and repairs and OEM parts.

Carmax and other nationwide auto groups and independent franchises selling used are not going away, no matter how much wishful thinking is posted on the internet about this. Not ALL change is progress or even good for the bulk of consumers, especially when we are talking about the 2nd largest purchase most people will make in their lifetimes. If it aint broke, don't fix it ?‍♂

I think what people want is more like what Tesla is doing. You buy the car online and the price is the same for everyone. Then it gets shipped to the dealership where you pick it up. The dealerships will still do the warranty work and everything. It's just cutting out the middle man when it comes to buying the car. You could still have the option of going to a dealership to buy one but there is no negotiating over the price, it's set by Ford or whoever. The dealership still gets money from the sell of the car, it's just built into the price. That makes it fair for everyone no matter if you are white, black, straight, gay or whatever. Not fair for some guy to go buy a car for $40,000 but some young girl buys the exact same car from the same dealership for $44,000.

To clarify, I too would like to see all car companies move to a Tesla style sales setup, however...

I'm sorry, but this sentence bugs me.

If I am privately selling my vehicle and I have two interested buyers and for whatever reason one of the buyers wants to pay me any dollar amount more than the other I am not treating the other potential buyer unfairly.

I am all for shitting on the current dealer setup, but to have a valid argument I can't hold them to a different standard than I would hold myself.

Using peoples ignorance as a reason why someone is other entity is bad, especially when a transaction is 100% voluntary is a terrible slippery slope to go down.

I'm talking NEW not used. If you are selling used I'm all for getting whatever you can.

What does being new/used change?

If my Ranger Raptor comes in and I turn around and put it up for sale with 5 miles on the ODO my same comment applies. I could easily create and unspoken bidding war.

Some of you are grasping at straws when it comes to some dealership complaints. Let that shit go and find solid valid reasons to shit on them (believe me there are plenty).

For example: The current dealership model is shit because of the customer experience it creates can cause a random spectrum scale to both extremes.

The first dealership I dealt with regarding the Raptor were hands down a bunch of stereotypical cliche sales douche bags, the second I was in and out the door in 30 minutes.

The first dealership was not treating me "unfairly" they were just short sighted idiots.

I can tell you don't work in the industry. When a dealer adds $15K to a new vehicle, it's pure profit, as in, money on their pocket. Steak and Lobster for everyone. I'm sure this makes sense for you?

Here's a link to review. The model is proven and works. Do you find many disappointed Tesla drivers? I'd also recommend looking up some past comments from Farley regarding his take on stealers. He's the CEO of Ford. If you are suggesting his thoughts aren't valid, but yours are, you may want to take it up with him directly.

actually, I did work in the industry decades ago and learned the ins and outs from salespeople. I Had friends with decades of experience in industry I bought from and learned from too. Your basic argument is against market forces determining value of goods and happens to be the basis of the US economic model, that works better than any other ever invented- until gov't sticks their noses in it and picks winners and losers- or worse yet legislations to make things "fair". See wiki below.

Since you hate UPWARDS $ adjustments when the market supports it, do you also hate DOWNWARDS adjustments in the form of rebates and other incentives when dealers need to move vehicles for less than MSRP in a down market? Didn't think so- just so unfair!
Either way, you DO realize you always have the option of NOT buying something for a price you don't like right? Freedom of choice. America at its finest.

Laissez-faire - Wikipedia

Laissez-faire (/ˌlɛseɪˈfɛər/ LESS-ay-FAIR; from French: laissez faire [lɛse fɛːʁ] (
Ford Ranger Told by dealer six months to one year wait ALL Ranger models. 11px-Loudspeaker.svg
listen), lit. 'let do') is a type of economic system in which transactions between private groups of people are free from any form of economic interventionism (such as subsidies or transfer payments). As a system of thought, laissez-faire rests on the following axioms: "the individual is the basic unit in society, i.e. the standard of measurement in social calculus; the individual has a natural right to freedom; and the physical order of nature is a harmonious and self-regulating system."[1]

Another basic principle of laissez-faire holds that markets should naturally be competitive, a rule that the early advocates of laissez-faire always emphasized.[1] With the aims of maximizing freedom by allowing markets to self-regulate, early advocates of laissez-faire proposed a impôt unique, a tax on land rent (similar to Georgism) to replace all taxes that they saw as damaging welfare by penalizing production.[2][clarification needed]

Proponents of laissez-faire argue for a near complete separation of government from the economic sector.[3][verification needed] The phrase laissez-faire is part of a larger French phrase and literally translates to "let [it/them] do", but in this context the phrase usually means to "let it be" and in expression "laid back".[4] Although never practiced with full consistency, laissez-faire capitalism emerged in the mid-18th century and was further popularized by Adam Smith's book The Wealth of Nations.[5][6]

While associated with capitalism in common usage, there are also non-capitalist forms of laissez-faire, including some forms of market socialism.

I’m paying a $5k ADM. But I also have to buy a new vehicle this year since my company is ditching fleet cars. Obviously not happy about it but it’s also completely expected for a limited run vehicle. People here like to forget that nearly every high spec Tacoma that leaves the lot has a markup. Same on Frontier Pro 4x’s and ZR2’s and AT4’s. If you have time to wait it out and buy without a markup, go for it. I don’t think you’ll ever be able to based on what’s happening with the other Raptors, but I don’t blame you. But some of use don’t have a choice, some have the cash, and some are impatient. What I can’t stand though is these condescending comments all over this thread. Whatever happened to minding your own business and “if you can’t say something nice don’t say anything at all”?

I'm paying $5000 ADM as well. However I also made sure to set that as my maximum allowed. I've also used the concept of critical thinking to realize by the time that Ranger raptors are more readily available by the time that occurs people will actually probably be paying the same amount that I'm paying now but with no ADM.

I've been harping on it a while now but between annual standard price increases and availability everyone who thinks they are going to get one at MSRP on a retail order they're going to have their bubbles popped after they get tired of waiting outside of a few anecdotally moon alignment situations. it's basically going to boil down a pure dumb luck and nothing to do with personal ability to negotiate.

If you take notice the majority of the stories where people are getting allocation One stock orders for MSRP it's because they have been a long-term customer of the dealership. They basically traded a $5,000 ADM by means of other investment.

These people need to understand it is not going to happen.

The dealership still gets money from the sell of the car, it's just built into the price. That makes it fair for everyone no matter if you are white, black, straight, gay or whatever. Not fair for some guy to go buy a car for $40,000 but some young girl buys the exact same car from the same dealership for $44,000.
Then you are at the mercy of Musk playing ping pong with his pricing every other week. Surely you have seen the stories of people being pissed off after paying going rate for a Tesla and then Musk cuts prices 2 weeks later with no warning? Isn’t that exactly what you described with a guy and a girl buying the same car from the same dealer- but 1 gets charged more? The industry answer to this is MSRP, so every person starts out with a level playing field.

The other concern I mentioned is the ordering on line part: there’s a significant group of people who simply don’t have ability to do that for 1 reason or another and no legacy company is going to alienate them (many are elderly or retired) and drive away sales for clients who typically have the means, but maybe not the know how.
