So many people drastically overbuy what they actually need. Yeah Raptor's look cool, but the price and horrendous gas mileage isn't worth it if you're not Baja racing and just driving on pavement 99% of the time.
If you regret not buying one you don't need to justify it out loud.

Some of us buy it because we want all the capability, even if we don't use it. For some, a small premium is worth the joy of driving a cool, fast, hard to find truck. I love the power and don't give two flips about the MPG.
I've been surprised with the mileage since I've had mine since July of 24,, far better than the tacoma's I've owned and at 50 mpg I'm averaging 25-26.

Well...

I just did some poking around over at the new Tacoma forums. You can click into the "issues/TSBs" section of the forum and read for hours! Those trucks are junk. Transmission failures, HVAC failures, no way to add trailer brake controller after purchase, rattles under hood, hood prop rods that don't work, squealing brakes with an accompanying TSB, on and on and on. My goodness...

Does ANY company make a good truck anymore?

I guess I may as well stay with Ford. Yet another repair tonight on my F-250 with only 106k miles and once it's back on the road I'll look at some Rangers and F-150s this weekend I guess.

I owned a 2002 4wd 4cyl Automatic Transmission Extra Cab Tacoma from when I bought it new in Feb 2002 until March of this year and it was so unbelievably reliable that nobody believes me. Almost all the parts were original when I sold it even the starter, alternator, AC Compressor, U joints and the list goes on almost forever. I put 235,000 miles on it with only typical maintenance.

The years from 1998-2004 made the Tacomas legendary but from what I understand the quality has been going down hill ever since. It's really a shame....

Thats our expeirence on those also. Those late 80s through very early 2k toyota trucks where the best ever. The 22r motor was unbelievable and the while truck was built to last

Just out of curiosities sake, I decided to see how many Ranger Raptors are for sale around me. Around, not close, out here close is a relative term...
Within:
100 Miles - 1 Used, 2024 Cactus Gray with 9,000 miles and $105 under original MSRP
200 Miles -1 New, At MSRP! Smaller dealership about 150 miles away
300 Miles - 4 New at MSRP. Again smaller dealerships
11 New at $5,000 to 10,000 OVER MSRP
4 used - 2 over Original MSRP, 2 at original MSRP
400 Miles - 44 additional, every single one $5,000 to 10,000 over MSRP. And one Priced at $15,000 over MSRP! $59,365 MSRP and $74,365 ASKING. Uhh no, just no... I guess we all want to avoid Corvallis, OR...
- 8 Used at $2,000 to $7,000 over original MSRP

Yeah and the most scary part is that Toyota built their frame with the receiver hitch welded in, which means that even a minor fender bender can result in the insurance company totaling the truck. I saw at least two reports of that happening while reading. Absolutely ridiculous....

Ford never does any incentives on Raptors unfortunately. Back in 24 when production was slow 10 or 5 ADM was fine, but now a days, the only people paying that are just lazy. You can easily find RRs at MSRP all day.

The Hot pepper Red was only in the 24 models. I assume red will come back when they do the next refresh. I dont see them refreshing this for another 2 years minimum though since its a global platform.
I ordered my '24 Ranger Raptor in July '23 and it was delivered at the end of April '24. Ford gave a $1000 rebate, the sales manager was unaware of it until I asked. That made my MSRP deal ever better!

Late 90's and early 2000's was a golden age in regards to vehicle reliability IMO.

I had an 04 GTI VR6 that made it 17 years with minimal maintenance before I sold it. Aside fro normal maintenance items, only had to replace a driveshaft due to a torn CV boot and I replaced a couple failed coil packs.

Cosmetically had issues, roof liner was sagging, etc but not bad for a 17 year old vehicle.

Back then vehicles had much less plastics since weight savings and mpg weren't as much of a priority. They were in my opinion the right mix of simplicity and technology for the long haul.

And, the MPG isn't necessarily all that bad. I've been babying my Raptor during the break-in and am currently averaging 21 MPG over the last 700-ish miles, according to the computer.

I'm at 16.2. There's a small hill I have to traverse daily, but it's not long, and I have to go down it, as well. Likewise, I've kept the RPM not much higher than 3,000 over the past 1,000 miles or so. The one exception was trying sport mode for about one mile. 🤣
