Are you an STX with no tow/low tow with no hitch and just the 4 pin? And you say you have that grey plug behind the kick panel? Have you taken steps to get anything installed?
My STX did not have it zip by the firewall. It was placed behind the plastic kick panel. This plug needs the trailer brake module to plug into. Then there is a wire that plugs into the module that is fed to the gain module that is installed beside the steering wheel in a corresponding bezel.
I'm planning on going to my dealership today because when I ordered my STX, there was no option to purchase the trailer brake controller. Now, when I go to the ford.ca website, I can order a STX with a trailer brake if you order it with a tow package. So I'm going to get them to order the parts needed. This should include a module with mount bracket, hardware for bracket, wire to gain controller, and gain controller with bezel.

Fascinating, standing by. This is encouraging! If this works out, I would love to see your parts list!

So far I have correct part numbers for the switch and bezel. About $180.00 Canadian.
SW-8839 for switch
N1WZ 26046A63 LA for bezel

Now I need to find out if the wire to this switch is sold separately as a small harness or if it's part of the dash harness which would suck. Plus I need to know where this wire connects to. I'd love if it was tucked somewhere but I can't seem to find anything.

And what about the module itself?

And what about the module itself?
There might be a separate module that the wires for the controller goes to or worst case scenario, it's a totally different dash harness which there is 2 different ones from my research. One with trailer brake, one without. Both very expensive.

If you want the factory brake controller and bezel look, that's the easy part and the cheapest. The rest of the wiring and module cost doesn't seem worth it. If there is a possibility of repinning a connector from an aftermarket module like redarc....that might work.

N1WZ-14401-AHM (without elec brake control)
N1WZ-14401-AHL (with elec brake control)
ML3Z-19H332-T is the module to replace if your truck did not have trailer brake.

For the module, this is what I see, which gets me confused. One says "with trailer brake, to 10/21/24, the other says "without trailer brake to 10/13/24". I assume trucks after those date's don't need it, or it's already there. I don't have any of the tow packages, but my truck recognizes when a trailer is connected to the 4-pin and lets me give it a name a store data about it. The 'Trailer Light Check" also works on my truck. My build date is 10/24, although I don't now exact day. And there's no module in th elocation shown.

Those first two N1WZ-14401-AHM and -AHL, are for the whole wiring harness. Definitely not worth it just to get the factory TBC. By the time you get all components, you'll be in for nearly $1000, when you can get an aftermarket TBC for around $200.

I'm coming to that conclusion too....šŸ˜”. Ford dropped the ball on this. Plus if you have to add that stupid AEB wire harness...it's even more of a hassle.

that is for a aftermarket trailer brake controller, not the factory one. you already have the trailer tow module, also called the trailer brake module. that is a pre wired plug for 3rd party aftermarket trailer brake contollers. I'm using the hopkins insight proportional/inertia control box, with the display and gain control which are remote mount compared to the main brain box.

Yes the block is for aftermarket tbc. My concern about the one you put in, is that is says it works with the AEB. Was there anything that had to be flashed to make the AEB talk to that setup? I know there is a separate harness that you have to buy from redarc and you have to take apart a pile of stuff to run it all. Why could ford have just had the wire for the tbc behind the dash to hook up a factory tbc and all you would have to do is flash the computer. Stupid Ford.

When I contacted Redarc about a TBC for my 2025 XL with factory 7-pin tow package, they responded with this:

**** Begin ****

Thank you for your inquiry and continued loyal support of our products, I hope this reply sees you as having had a wonderful weekend and looking forward to your week ahead!

My name is Mark Bruce, International Training and Development Manager here at REDARC Electronics and I’m an integral part of our North American Customer Support Team.

I think you’ll agree Aaron, the REDARC TowPro, offers the most factory fit, look and feel electronic trailer brake controller on the market, offering smooth and precise control at your fingertips, where vehicle manufacturers intended accessory switches to go, and without having to fumble around with old knee knocking technology from years gone past…

  • Question: EBRH-ACCV3-NA - 2025 Ford Ranger XLT with basic factory tow package - What parts do I need for Redarc brake controller on 2025 Ford Ranger XLT with basic factory tow package? I ask in the context of the AEB system. I have seen that you sale a Ranger-specific wiring kit, TPWKIT-012. I also see that you sale an encapsulated protection device, EPDK-001. What is needed for the model year 2025 Ford Ranger with the basic factory tow package?

  • Answer: Absolutely Aaron, if your 2025 Ford Ranger was indeed supplied with the factory tow package, this meaning it features a 7way connector at the rear hitch, the good news is they have a plug and play connector under the dash, compatible with our TPH-007 TowPro Ford Harness...

Better still, I suggest you would simply use the NEW part number CIKTP-NA-007 TowPro Ford (Bronco) Trail Kit and will include all the REDARC part numbers you will require for the installation…

Like the Elite, the TowPro Trail Kit is our latest product, offering the latest technology, fit and function… as well as proportional mode, it too features the ā€˜User Control’ Mode, or as it’s commonly referred to as the ā€˜All-Terrain Mode’ having you ā€˜REDARC Ready’ for all your overlanding adventures…

Further to this Aaron, our CIKTP-NA-007 TowPro Trail ā€˜Ford Bronco’ brake control kit… which also fits the the latest 2024 - 2025 Ranger trucks, includes the EBRH-ACCV3-NA-T Elite controller, TPH-007 plug & play harness, EBMK-001 Universal Mounting Kit and Universal Switch Insert, this to help provide ease of fitment, factory look and feel…

Thanks again Aaron, I hope the information I’ve been able to share assists with your installation, however please don’t hesitate contacting me direct should you like to discuss in further detail, I’m here to help.

********* End **********

So all you need in addition to the TBC is the Ford Ranger/Bronco specific harness. Etrailer sells their own harness too.

Thats the inertia part of the controller. you have to mount the brain box in a specific orientation for it to function. when it automatically activates in a heavy deacceleration moment. it will automatically activate the trailer brakes, and activate the trailer brake lights, where the AEB takes care of the truck side. the way it was described to me when I called hopkins to confirm was to think of it as its own aeb for the trailer, completely sepperate from the truck, its not a intragrated aeb system, but standalone.

and being proportional braking aswell. the harder you step on the on the brakes, the more voltage is going through the trailer brake signal wire, the stronger the gain will auto adjust for the brake. I could have mine set to say 60/99, normal braking will only see a max of 60 on the gain. but if I lightly brake, Ill see maybe a 10-40(up to my set of 60). and if I step on the brakes, I will see above my max set to the full lock up of 99. and the spike leveler is alos proportional, lightly grab it, barely any trailer brake, fully depress it, full application.

So you are saying when the trucks autonomous emergency brake brakes sends the signal to brake the truck the Hopkins system will know this and know much braking is being applied and slow the trailer in the exact same?
