I run the UPR drain plug. Basically the same thing. Love it! Makes dumping the oil a breeze and mess free. Plus it adds a magnet to give you a little visual cue to any BIG surprises once you pull the entire plug after the oil drains out the center port. That gets the last couple of ounces up against the plug itself and gets you that mag check & clean off.

Buy it and you’ll never again curse the oil Niagara Falls of that Ford yellow plug. Worth every penny!
What made you choose the UPR over the Ronin? I'm trying to decide which one to order.

Simple….previous experience! I had the UPR drain plug on my previous F-150 3.5L and it never gave me an issue over about 20+ oil changes while owing the truck. Like the solid one piece design.

Simple dump process. - Pull the center rubber plug off and slip 1/2ā€ ID silicone or poly tubing over that port and route it into catchment of your choice and twist it open until it flows wide open. You can stop there or I always then twist the entire plug out to get the last ounce or 2 up against the plug drained and to inspect & clean the magnet at the end of the plug.
Literally a 3-4 minute procedure. Takes more time to fuss with the skid plate.
What’s not to like?
Seems like the Ronin does just about the same thing. Plus, I just like the blue better than the gold….so there’s that, HA!

Where are you guys getting your filters? I see them at Ford dealers all over the country for around $11 but my local Ford monopoly charges almost $18:frown:

I like using Rock Auto. You can get Motorcraft or Mann which is basically the same thing for my 2.7 in my Bronco. I also get my FL500s that I’m using for my 2.3 there. I got them for my Mustang but they fit the new 2.3 and since I don’t have the Mustang now it worked great

I found it locally at Oreilly Auto.I've ordered my Ronin, now just trying to decide on my oil. I've narrowed it down to Quaker State 5W/30 full synthetic and Penzoil 5W/30 Platinum full synthetic.
Q.S. is good oil and priced decently, I use it in my Jeep. I saw this video from Lake Speed Jr. though and now considering the Penzoil Platinum.

When I bought my RR new I hunted around on EBay & picked up a case of 12 for right around $105 with shipping so $8 1/2 each. Then they’re always on hand.
Easiest & cheapest way I’ve found.

Got mine at Auto Zone in Lake Havasu City. Real Ford filter around $12. Ford here in Lake Havasu wants $200 dollars for full syn oil change. For my Edge 6 quarts. Same filter ss the RR,

I’ve used both those in 5.0 Mustang, F150 and my 2.7 F150s, Bronco and similar Oil Analysis. I’d say get whatever is cheaper

as far as filters again. I buy in bulk and save money hence my rock auto recommendation. Any local place will have them but you probably pay 3-5 bucks more a filter

Amazing that people care about saving a few bucks on motor oil to put in a $40-50k vehicle. Mobil 1 and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum are often on sale for around $30/jug. Either will be more than good enough.

Some of the freakier members of BiTOG brag about going 20k between changes and all I can think is WHY??

There are a few companies that provide 100% synthetic oil like Amsoil and a few others but their products are expensive and you can get the same protection and durability with full synthetic brands like Penzoil, valvoline, mobil 1, etc. Like I stated before, I can get Penzoil ultra platinum and high quality filters for less than 50 bucks. Amsoil oil filters are junk, you are just paying for the brand. As long as you keep your intervals at around 4K to 5K miles with full synthetic, you can get the same result as using 100% synthetic and save lots of money. Think about one thing, Amsoil is not available at stores, you have to order it or contact a dealer and that is how you end up paying more, save your hard earned money.

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum every 5,000 miles with wix brand filters (they make the Motorcraft OEM filters) will be my plan. I installed a Ronin oil drain valve to make things easy. $35 if you can get the Pennzoil on sale and stock up, which I do.

Did my first oil change at 500 miles, and my 2nd at 2,000 miles, and then the next one was at 5,000.

I use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-30 with the AMSOIL EA15K43 filter, which filters down to 20 microns at 99% efficiency, compared with Motorcraft’s 30 microns at 80%.
I might change the oil I use because Pennzoil is showing lower viscosity than it should, according to a lab test.
