Dealer warranty, usually through some after mkt insurance or other company. You usually must service with them only and at regulated intervals by them and even still, they will often they try not to warrant your vehicle, and this is if the company who sponsors this warranty for the dealer even still exists. This is not the same as a factory backed warranty or esp and is a dealer come on, trying to get you in the door and to purchase from them.

These are offered as if they are some huge benefit to the consumer when in actuality they are offered so that you are required to service at their dealership. The service department is typically the largest $$ maker for the dealership other than maybe finance. Typically if you dont service there, the supposed lifetime warranty is null and void. And its null and void the 2nd you are no longer the owner of your car, or the dealership changes hands, or the fly by night warranty company ceases to exist. I'd not rely on this as being a very good perk.

The difference is a factory backed warranty or esp is backed by the manufacturer and all of its dealerships must honor the warranty. So you may take your vehicle to any Ford dealer for the warranty repair and your maintenance can be done at any ford dealership as well, and in actuality your maintenance often does not have to be done at a Ford dealership as long as you keep good records. And the likelihood of the manufacturer going bust vs a dealer changing hands, or the warranty sponsor going bust, is far far less.

A Ford esp or warranty is superior to this dealer offered lifetime warranty gimmick.

Hope my many comments above help. I sure dont know it all, but having been in the business for years and growing up around it, ive seen and learned many things about the business. And I've seen the pros and cons of esps and other things, as well as the price gouging, and the mickey mouse games that many dealers play that confuse and jade the views of customers toward dealers, esps, etc, very understandably.

Save the money. Insurance companies know the likelihood of you ever using the insurance is extremely low. If you want to self-insure, put $100 a month in an account or put 1K in a 6 month CD or whatever investment platform you prefer.

I mostly agree - but this a Ford Motor Co warranty - it’s a factory warranty. It’s different from some Allstate warranty that you could buy when you buy a TV.

I don’t like them. No matter what they are on . The odds are that you will never come close to spending anywhere near the cost of the plan .
These plans are sold by companies that are in it to make money and they know that the odds are in the favor .

Has anyone found a dealer in CA that does the Ford extended warranty at close to dealer cost? Apparently CA has a law that forbids out of state warranties... So Granger, Flood, etc. are not an option. Not convinced I want/need one yet, but am thinking about it. If I can't get one without a 50% dealer markup I guess that makes my decision easy. (Big fat no).

I purchased the Ford BaseCare plan from Grainger when I bought the truck (8yr/100k). I usually avoid extended warranties, but justified it in this case since powertrain components have got crazy expensive and I plan to keep the truck a long time.

Completely bogus in today's world. With dealers selling Ford backed esps at $25 over cost, often times just one repair bill can be more than you pay for the esp, especially if a rental car or travel reimbursement comes in to play.

This is an old and outdated thought about esps. With part and labor prices today your actually not very wise not to have an esp. Wait until the apim goes out, the module running all of your electronics including ford sync, radio, climate control, etc, it can be thousands and thousands. Engine or transmission issues can be $4000+.

But you were implying that they were a poor financial decision and useless. Thats is far from the case and it's a very smart move in today's world of electronics and high prices.

Part of how they make $ is having your money up front to invest and make $ on before paying claims. But, yes they are a business and have to be profitable, but that doesn't illegitimize the value in the product they are offering.

As I have said I don’t buy these extended warranties.
I am 75 years old . I have had dozens of autos, motorcycles , boats, snowmobiles , rvs and countless home appliances , lawn equipment , hand tools. I have never paid for a repair that was out of warranty. I maintain the equipment to manufacture requirements.
This is real world and hard facts .
Do as you may .

So some Bronco owners are experiencing a bracket failure that supports the front differential. The repair is covered under the 36k/3yr warranty. The part listed in the Ford TSB for the repair can be as high as $1,500.00; and get this, according to one Ford tech the part is NOT covered with the Ford Premium Care.

Not saying the Ranger 6G will experience this bracket cracking and diff mount breaking, but there could be frame similarities. So, for those that use 4Lo frequently, and will eventually be outside the 36k/3yr warranty, and possibly have paid for an extended warranty, would you be pissed-off having potentially experienced this problem and being denied coverage? (rhetorical)

It's the what's not covered with these extended warranties that can be a let-down.

Yep, as a car salesman we sold these purely for the huge profit. Like the paint protection, complete bullshit. It was funny how the happiest customer was the one you made the most money from. Barterers with low price were always the whingers with ongoing complaints.

If you're going to wait, I tell people to wait the first year or under 12000 miles, whichever comes first, as there is only a $100 upcharge at that point to purchase a Ford esp, since you are still well within the factory warranty at this point. If you buy one after the first year or 12000 miles the warranty prices begin to increase.

So you can wait up to almost a year and just under 12k miles to purchase one, with only a $100 penalty gor doing so and this gives you time to see if you like and will be keeping the car you purchase. But again, you miss out on tow coverage, rental coverage, trip reimbursement, etc during thst period of time you don't have an esp.

It is a personal preference as to which route you take, but you do have options.

Just be careful about that and read the print. Even if you buy an ESP in year 2, it may still be considered a new car warranty, since you are the first owner. If that is the case, the ESP starts at 0 miles, day 1 of the truck, NOT when you purchase the ESP. Anything after OEM warranty is considered a used car warranty, will require an inspection, and is considerably higher in price.

I bought an 8yr/125K from Grainger for my '21 XTX for l $1635. When I traded it for a '24 XLT FX4, I transferred the ESP to the '24. After proration, they credited me $944, so I had to pony up another $1351, making the 8yr/125K ESP $2295.

So I’m looking for any of you that have this plan for info , on if you like it or not . It seems a little good to be true. But I know very little about Buying an extended warranty for a truck .
So your two cents might be helpful I’m sure.

The big 3, all sell the same Ford Protect warranty, Granger, Flood, Zeigler, the only difference is the pricing and the finance options. Watch for add on processing fees and the total cost when comparing. I will be buying one for my 25 XLT in March. If you buy before 12 months/12,000 miles it's cheaper.
