oh how much was yours?
The tank is 2800CAD plus shipping, customs/brokerage fees. I won’t know the fees until the tank arrives.

Was able to pull up the engineering mode and change the value from 1000 to 958 (.958 from my mpg calculations)

Hopefully that puts the estimate closer inline with my hand calculated mpg numbers, won't know if it worked or not until I go through my next tank. I should've tried to see if it would allow me to input a value greater than the 1000 stock value. I'm assuming that the guys running larger tanks would need to go up rather than down like I did?
If this works i’ll be buying a larger fuel tank

It did work. It immediately changed my all-time mpg number and the mpg in my current trip. I have never tried to adjust the number upwards (above 1000) but I think it is possible. Would change your average mpg to an artificially high number, but I think you could get the distance to empty figure dialed in to what you want.

Maybe I’m not understanding this well. I thought when you run the calculation, all you’re doing is setting the DTE based on your real world MPG (which the computer already does overtime based on past tanks).

So is the goal by making the value change to trick the computer into thinking you get a higher MPG, increasing your DTE?

Correct. I was just using it to make my displayed mpg more closely match my hand calculated mpg. But for those with the larger tank, I think they could use it to inflate their displayed mpg and thus increase the DTE.

You would have to add 75% to your actual mpg to make that work. 17 mpg would have to read almost 30 mpg and since the tank shape varies it would only be accurate towards the bottom of the tank. I don’t see the point. I would rather have an accurate mpg calculation and trip odometer where I can accurately calculate gallons left in the tank and miles to empty.

I just put 411 miles on my tank when it hit 1/4 tank. Filled up and put in 23.5 gallons. I now know that I have an easy 10 gallons of fuel left at a 1/4 tank plus about 3.5 gallons in reserve. At half tank I have 17.5 gallons left plus the reserve. I verified my computer calculated 17.4 mpg and hand calculated 17.46 mpg are easily within the cutoff difference between pumps. DTE is way low, but you will never run out of fuel because of it.

Guess I’ll just keep waiting till someone comes out with a real fix
I don’t anticipate anyone developing a fix for the Rangers if Australia has not. This has been an issue for the Super Duties since 2023 and S&B just came up with a solution this month for the Super Duty. The Super Duty is way more popular in NA than the Ranger. Due to the shape of the tank, it will require a module programmed for that shape to work properly. I am almost certain the S&B module will work on the Ranger if properly programmed/calibrated for the actual tank shape. There is just not enough market for S&B to put in the time on the module for the Ranger when they can’t even justify building an extended range tank for them.

Funny thing for me is i had a partially broke fuel level sensor before i had my tank installed and still do now so my gauge is completely untrustworthy for the most part hahah. Thanks for ford parts shortage on our oddly specific fuel level sensor which is why i havent fixed yet.

Ive had the LRA tank for a few months now and just take my trip MPG and run the numbers for about 32gal tank (32 to be safe) and get my current fuel range estimate vs what ive driven… resetting trip meter every fillup.

How many miles are you getting out of a full tank?

I havent run it completely dry but I’m regularly refueling in the late 400s. Simple calcs with real fuel usage is showing 530-600mi in a full tank (depends on mpg which varies wildly for me depending in if I’m offroading, commuting or roadtripping).

which shop did that if you don't mind? Really hate the range on the ranger but dang the tank are expensive.

Has anyone tried this? I just saw this in another thread on the forum:

"As done on previous Fords to adjust the accuracy of your Distance To Empty (DTE) you hold the OK button down and then hit the ignition button, whether push button or turning the ignition key on. ET will pop up on the screen. Hit OK till the prompts are gone and you see the engineering screen. Scroll up once and you're at the DTE adjustment. Do the math and divide your actual hand calculated mileage with what's on the DTE. EXAMPLE 18.6÷18.9=0.9841269841 change the number on the DTE screen to 984 and hit enter. That will adjust you to true DTE. This will allow those of you with the big aftermarket tanks to calibrate. Forscan doesn't do this function."

I came here to post this.

This worked on my F-150. You could change the calculation to get perfectly accurate DTEs.

Do they have a fix from Down under members to fix this issue?
Exitoffroad.com has a 35 gallon direct swap tank. Using forscan can recalibrate the tank fuel sending unit.

Curious if anyone has installed and experiences.

Someone was asking abt still refueling at 1/4 tank remaining. Fwiw, Ford mechanics i know recommend not letting your tank get low regularly as the fuel is also the lubricant for the pump. If you're starving it or using cheap gas, expect reduced life from it.
