Do you know that Ford is aware of the problem? I think that would be the only way they would develop and issue a TSB.
No, I don’t know. But this seems to be a common experience for us owners. My gut tells me Ford engineers know about it (or soon will).

Need to start a tracker. Haven’t seen anything on the FB pages. How many actually have posted on here have it? 10-15? I did but like 2 times. It actually only ever did it thinking back when i was on a slight incline in my driveway with the parking break on and once not. But the one time i wasn’t in the driveway it sounded more like the front end. Truck never moved or anything just a loud kinda bang/thump

F150s had an extremely similar problem around 2018-2020. There are Reddit threads with 500+ comments. To my knowledge, Ford never acknowledged or solved it.

Did it cause any serious problems internally? Or is it just an unsettling noise?
I haven't noticed any noise, because my truck is on scheduled starts or remote started.

800 miles on my 2026 2.7L Ranger. Twice in the past week I've had the clunk on start up. The truck jumps back and scares the heck out of me. As someone else described...it's like shifting from park to reverse with the engine slightly revved up. This can't be a good thing and I will be contacting the dealer to have it on record and also follow this thread and report updates. Glad I found this forum when investigating the problem

After mine sits a more than a day I have been putting it into neutral before starting the engine (accessory mode->neutral->crank engine) and it has not happened again but its also been only a week since I started this experiment.
FYI, it has been a month now with this experiment and it has not happened again. I plan to continue this procedure until a TSB hopefully becomes available.

I too am starting in neutral to avoid the clunk.

If one leaves the driver door open when starting in park, it is easier to hear the clunk. But yeah, it is there on most starts from park in my 2025 RWD ranger.

Thanks for the idea of starting inn neutral.

I am very interested in the cause of the clunkand if Ford will have an official statement.

That is a strange thing. AFAIK, PARK is just NEUTRAL with extra steps, engaging a pawl to keep the vehicle from rolling. It sounds like the truck is in PARK, but not NEUTRAL when starting up.
When this happens, are you guys on a flat or inclined surface?

It's not so much a sound as it is a thump and they put me the truck jerking backwards. You can't miss it and I think it's best experienced with the door closed.

Based on what it feels like I would not start my truck in neutral and risk the truck actually jumping into gear and launching itself through my garage door. Of course, if someone wants to test that theory and let us know what happens, that's fine too.

I remote start my truck from inside a building nearly 99% of the time, but one of the rare times I start the truck sitting in it I have a clunk. It probably does it with the remote start also, but I never hear it. Out of sight out of mind i guess.
