Would you trade your current Ranger Raptor for a 5.0 Coyote version?

Hello everyone,

I just traded my 2016 Toyota 4Runner Trail Editon for brand new 2026 Marsh Grey Ranger Raptor. The 4Runner served me well for 10 years, but it was time for me to look for something new.

I tried ALL trucks and I mean it. The only one that really put a smile in my face was the Ranger Raptor so I bought it. But MY GOD I wish that this truck was available with an optional 5.0 Coyotte engine. Do you realise how cool it would be to have the 5.0 engine as an option!!!???

Congrats, and WELCOME to the club! Same reason I bought my RR...It's a BLAST! Initially I would have agreed with the Coyote. After the Procal tune and replacing the rear resonators with Vibrant 1141's not so much. Exhaust is deeper and less raspy, power is plentiful. Sure doesn't sound like a '70 big block v8 but I appreciate the sound now. Only thing that still gives me pause is the turbo lag.

It would need more than 480hp/415lb-ft for me to trade. With the FP tune, our trucks are pushing 455hp/530lb-ft of torque. The rumble of a V8 would be nice, but it would have to be a heck of a build for me to trade.

I previously owned 2012 and 2016 Mustang GTs with Coyotes. The 2016 had a Procharger installed. They like to rev and wake up above 3500rpm and sound insane with a H pipe.

But I love the low end torque of the FP tuned 3.0 so for a truck I'm good.

Had a 2016 GT with stage 2 Power Pack, it made the same 455 HP as my FP tuned Ranger. Peak torque on the 5.0 was around 4200 rpm, pretty high up and for a V8, it didnt have the low end grunt of the bigger displacement 6.2L LT1 in the Camaro or the 6.4L Hemp.

The 3.0L in my opinion is better suited to truck applications with its torque down in the 3k RPM range. It also holds torque pretty well up top because of its broad torque band. Aside from some intercooler heat soak which is easy to fix.

Probably not. I don't imagine the power output from an NA 5.0 would be much different than the V6 with the procal tune. The V8 rumble would be awesome, but not enough to justify it financially.

If it came as a super charged RRR (Ranger Raptor R) ... in a heartbeat!

I would for a supercharged Coyote V8.
Otherwise the 3.0 is faster and has more torque.

Yes, in heartbeat I would not only trade one of my RRs but all 3 of them. LOL

The only thing I find my RRs lacking is the soul of a V8 rumbling under the hood.

I would love to hear what the Vibrant 1141's sound like. Seems like a good way to go $$$
