Intercooler shutters

Hi all - I just received a turbosmart intercooler to address the significant heat soak issues I have observed with the ford procal tune. It seems CRAZY to me that there is a set of shutters that block flow to the intercooler. For the radiator, I get it (to help the car reach operating temperature faster). But for the intercooler it seems like a crazy design on a high performance truck.

what have others done regarding these shutters? I am included to remove or somehow disable them but curious what people have done. Is there a way that they can be held open at all times using forscan?

Can't be done in Forscan. This is controlled in the PCM. It will take HPtuners setup or get a custom tune from someone like Goosetuned.

I've read here that people have removed them and left the actuator attached. Not sure why...

Might be necessary to have them in winter?

I think they leave the actuator in place and plugged in so no check light pops up. The ecu doesnt know the shuttered aren't there because the actuator still moves it's little arm up and down, though no air flow is blocked since the actual shutters are removed

I wonder if the shutters are another EPA Formula hack. Active aero. Has no actual effect on anything but their presence gets you an extra .3mpg rating....

It does know if you remove the shutters. I cut the end of the shutter that plugs into the actuator and reinstalled it. So, it still thinks the shutters are still there. No codes generated.

The shutters have a very minor effect on fuel economy. It means little if they are functional or blocked open. The only real option is to replace the intercooler with a high quality replacement. On my 2019 Mustang, I added a CVF unit that was a major improvement on the track.

They probably have little aero effect on gas mileage. I had a 2017 F150 ecoboost that did not have the shutters. The intercooler would build up condensation and cause the engine to stumble and bog down. Some people drilled small holes in them to help with condensation and some covered part of the intercooler at certain times of the year.

Noob here. Are the shutters for radiator separate from inter cooler shutters? Or is it just on big set?
I don't plan on any modifications, just try to learn about these.

They are separate(Shutter A and Shutter B) and controlled separately.

Mine are open all the time . But it is summer It could be a real cold thing and where I live we don't even have ice on the cold mornings. My fans are on all the time. If they wanted it to warm up faster just leave the fans off
