Vehicle currently has 3,000kms, 2025 XLT w/ 2.7L

First noticed the tapping/ knocking sound in drive-throughs where the echo reflects, and now it can be heard pretty easily from outside the vehicle. Seems to be loudest when warm but not fully warm. This sounds like a worn out 350 with stuck lifters, does anyone else have this sound, is it normal, or am I looking at a service visit? Thanks for any insight. Have heard before and after an oil change, so that did not affect it.

Sounds like it could be the direct injection. My wife's 4Runner sounds the same. Direct injectors tend to be noisy. My Ranger is still quiet but it isn't broken in yet.
For peace of mind I would get it in to the dealership to make sure all is good.

My 2.7 did it too at 1k, Dealer told me that's normal. Now I'm at 6k and it doesn't sound like that any more.

I agree with Ron_TX. I took mine in to the dealer at 1K and they said that was normal. Mine stopped at about 3 or 4K. I also recommend a trip to the dealer for record keeping purposes - just in case...
Might also try a load of Shell V-Power NiTRO+ (or something similar). I do this about every 5th or 6th tank load. Engine is running super smoothe - and I have a lead foot.

If it was me, that truck would be knocking right back to the dealer!

OP, what ever happened? Did it stop making the noise or what did the dealer say?

It's still making the noise, I won't be able to get it into the dealer for another week or two unfortunately. Re: The folks that mentioned fuel and injectors, its been on 93 octane since day one from various suppliers, hasn't had any effect changing brands. I am very familiar with the sound direct injection makes (I actually work in a service department, so I had my own suspicious already, only really posted because I'm mostly curious about other people having the issue before I take it in for service)and it's definitely not direct injection - its much too slow, it would have to be one bad injector, and injectors are more of a tick not a knock similar to a hammer on metal. Once I get it in I will update what the dealer has to say.

Hopefully that's not Uncle Rodney knocking.

July 11 update
Finally got it into the dealer, they are unsure of where it's coming from. It was loudest in their stethoscope on the transmission bell housing, so they are going to put in a new torque converter while basically admitting they are just guessing and throwing parts at it. After looking at thread https://www.ranger6g.com/forum/threads/2024-ranger-2-7l-knock-ticking.15803/ it appears my engine is making the same sound, and theirs ended up getting replaced. I would be very surprised if a torque converter would make this kind of knocking, but I will let the dealer replace parts until they get it figured. Will update whenever that gets done.

Aug 30 update
Torque converter has been replaced with no changes, dealer hasnt responded up to my follow up email, trying to keep everything in writing. Will call them next week or two and see how they want to proceed, going on a 2 week vacation so not enough time to get any more diag done until late September if they ever get back to me. Will update as it goes.

Any update on your 2.7 knock? Mine just developed a knock at 3,285 miles. Only knocks when transmission is in drive or reverse, sound goes away in park and neutral. Video attached, need to turn volume up high to hear knock but sound is very apparent when sitting inside vehicle.

It's currently still at the dealership, they are putting in an entire replacement transmission. Should be done sometime next week, I will confirm here whether it has fixed the issue.

Did they replace the flywheel with the new transmission? I have replaced flywheels that made that knocking sound. Not saying that's the cause here but it's worth looking into. Some times there are hair line cracks in them.

Same issue with my 2.7 and at 3K miles they replaced the motor, long block. I am not going to go into all the details but, short story is they RR'd the motor by dropping it out of the bottom and it just wasn't the same truck handling wise and the knock was still there..perhaps even louder. This isn't a flex but I have more money than time these days so I sold it back to Ford, took the loss and bought a Tacoma. Will see how that goes.
