The powerboost is kind of awful from what I understand - its not very smooth because of the how the hybrid system deploys power.

Most likely the Ranger engine options will be:

2.3EB 3.0EB and 3.0EB HO for engine options in the future with that last being reserved for the Raptor
Maybe I'm cynical, but my guess is they eliminate the 2.7L/bigger engine offering and keep the 3.0L on the Raptor. If Switzguy is right and the 2.7L truly only represents 15% of Rangers produced, it doesn't seem like there's enough of a market for an upsell. I'd be curious how much the cost of tooling/producing is offset by the sales at that low of a percentage. I'd think the margins would be pretty thin, unless it's being helped by the fact that a higher percentage of Broncos are 2.7L.

This would also follow their trend of decontenting these trucks each year. They could bring the 3.0L EB out for the next gen refresh.

If I were Ford I'd dump all of my resources into building a reliable, high quality, high performance 3.0L V6. The 2.7L V6 is a lower volume unit which means higher cost & less return. You're talking about a mini mountain dew can in difference of displacement so the redundancy is apparent.
The 2.3L isn't going anywhere since it's in everything from the base mustang to the crossovers & the ranger.
I haven't done much reading into the 3.5L but if it's a full size truck I'd take it for better towing over the V8.
And Ford isn't going to get rid of the V8 unless they're forced to.

Same reliable source from BOF says a new 6 cylinder is in development. And it does not sound like it is going to be a V6 (single turbo).

Has there been an official announcement for the engines that are going to be in the 2027 Rangers? Or a timeframe for when it will be announced?

I'm a fan of the BMW B58 I6 so this would be very interesting

I think it’s mostly all rumors for now. At least for the Rangers.

Nobody is making an inline 6 these days. Packaging isn't there with modern crash regs. Engines are getting smaller and more compact under the hood, not longer.

BMW is making them so you must not be keeping up with the times. Inline 6 is their specialty.

They've never not made them. Everyone else quit a while back because of packaging concerns. I said what I said.

Sorry, but you're incorrect. At the very least, Mercedes went back to making inline-6's after decades of farting around with inferior v6's. Not sure of other manufacturers.

To be clear - your points are 100% valid when you overlap with the prevalence of transversely mounted engines. All of the counterpoints were longitudinally mounted.

To be clear: an i6 probably won't fit in the Ranger's engine bay. It's too short. There's more length in front of the A pillar on a Taco and a longer hood even though it only comes with i4s. Now compare backseat room - from a subjective sense at least - the Ranger has more cabin space.

All of those other makes are putting i6s into big vehicles relative to their cabin space. That's not the direction we really want to go in even if it does make for beautiful proportions. Look at the examples below and pay attention to the front axle location versus A pillar.
