Bronco Pickup could kill the Ranger?!?!

I absolutely love my 2024 Gen06 XLT! But I am at the opposite end of the spectrum from the RR-loving/Bronco P/U fanboys. Having intentionally down, down, downsized from an F350 gas. I have the 2.3/4cyl and run in eco mode 100% of time. I drive 96 miles a day. 60% hilly CT highways and average over 26mpg (has anyone notice gas prices lately!!?). The fit/finish/styling/size/efficiency of my Gen06 is superb. The only upgrade I would want is PHEV… and possibly the option for a longer bed/shorter cab.

I am curious why no one has thus far mentioned the Fathom that Ford is planning to squeeze in below or above the Maverick?!? Either are too small for my tastes however (even though am carefully watching Slate and did the $50 reserve).

Ranger tow capacity is 7500, real world payload is 1450-1650.

Bronco tow capacity is 3500, payload is 1100 or so.

A Bronco truck would be as much of a truck as the Maverick, not the Ranger.

Internationally they wont kill the ranger.

Problem is the F150 is Fords bread and butter in N/A but due to covid they are stupid expensive. As a result the Maverick and Ranger are eating away at F150 sales.

I am seeing a ton of Mavericks around up in Eastern ontario. starting to see a lot of 6th gen Rangers too due to F150s being stupidly expensive up here.

I don’t think the ranger is really eating into the f150. Ford just doesn’t sell that many rangers.

it’s also a pathway to a f150. Same with the maverick.

that has been a problem with Ford escape being cancelled.

and probably every ranger or maverick sold is another Toyota Tacoma not sold.

and maybe ultimately that is where the bronco pickup might come, in to chip away at the Toyota Tacoma.

Ford flatly refuses to market the Ranger. Like at all. It's the best truck in the segment and they don't want anyone to know about it. If they did, it would be significantly eating into Tacoma sales. Not immediately but in time it would definitely hurt Toyota. But for reasons that escape me, Ford just won't.

As for sales, it’s difficult to actually find a Ranger on the lot in my area. Dealers seem to sell them quickly or they aren’t ordering much of them. Not sure what’s going on with the Ranger Market.

I read that smaller truck sales are up due to current fuel prices.

I'm actually far more interested in the REO Runabout. Hopefully it actually gets built.

I really don’t want a truck or suv that is designed to remove the roof and/or doors.

They suck. They are loud, leaky and weakened for a feature I would never use.

There are a few people who want that feature.

Good for them. They have the Bronco.

If ford kills the Ranger, then I can’t buy a Ford.

The Ranger is the best midsize available even though Ford keeps trying to kill it through decontenting.

On a side note I got stuck with a Bronco Sport rental car in Montana this past July 4th.

I have never been in a vehicle so thoroughly optimized at windshield bug smashing and I am over 60. Washer wouldn’t take them off. I had to pull over frequently to scrub them at the numerous awesome gas stations Montana has.

I didn’t notice anyone else having such a layer of windshield bug goo, so either Montana people have oven cleaner in their washers or that flat boxy front end and flat boxy windshield are a horrible idea.

The Ranger replacement coming from TTP will offer a hybrid power train and likely multiple bed/cab combinations. But, I think it is far more likely that the hybrid will be a Powerboost (like the F-150) and not a PHEV.

I put my name on the list for the Fathom, mostly because my son will need a car in a few years and is likely getting my Focus, which is my daily driver. I'll be looking strongly at AWD hybrid Mavericks and any PHEV mid-size options as well if we get them. I've got a couple years, so I'm in a nice spot where I can wait, but still have a couple decent options available now if the need arises. And to keep the thread on topic, a Bronco pickup would never be one of those options, nor a Bronco-esque G-Wagon. Lincoln or Bronco badged Everest, strong maybe.

Agreed, hope it's not vaporware. The REO is what the market actually wanted - a throwback 4-banger, big gas tank, decent MPGs, real 4WD, body on frame. Hopefully it's as simple as advertised and "just works" like trucks of yesterday.

I want to say it's going to be naturally aspirated? It just says "I4" on their website. Curious who they're gonna source the engine from.

Every dealer I checked had 1, MAYBE 2 Rangers, 50 - 60 F150s, and 10 -15 Broncos and Mavericks. Rangers 'fly off the shelf' as soon as they get them, and that's without ads.

Not in Colorado. I bought my '25 in June of this year, and the dealer was more than willing to submit more than one "best offer", each with a lower price, until I finally wrote the check. The Tacoma still dominates here.

I think its because 98% of the guys 18-35 years old in colorado have a beard, glasses, a beanie, and have to have Tacoma to blend in with all the other guys or they aren't cool and can't meet at starbucks
