On F150's, it is very easy to disable the TCU. Pull a couple of connectors on the unit behind the back seat and it's done. Automakers and their hired Influencers want you to look away, nothing to see here. Everyone is doing it.

then how do you" leave the phone behind " as you stated in previous post if your hooked up to blue tooth? makes no sense....I will try and Bluetooth only hookup and see wht the results are. I even called "fords team of experts" who spewed out more misinformation...they don't even know the system shows thumbnail pics...what retards.
When I leave work for lunch, my phone stays at work, that's when I get the message about location and data services active, etc.
At that time, I can't make or receive calls, cause no phone.
But when I do have my phone, I can make/receive calls and text paired thru Blue Tooth, but I don't have Android Auto connected or running. On 5G, SYNC3, AA and ACP work only with a hard wire connection from phone to truck via USB.

By the way these phone apps and now car infotainment systems are selling your driving data to insurance companies.

One way to find out if SYNC keeps those contact photos is to leave your phone behind and see if the photos still show up in contacts. As for my 5G SYNC3, I've never seen photos on contacts in the display.
I figured out after playing with the sync 4, that after phone contacts with pictures are downloaded, Ford uploads the contacts data OTA ...AND the contacts AND the pictures remain on sync 4 and can be accessed w/o phone anywhere nearby ( no BT or WIFI connection)

Good details on what has changed in SYNC4.
Seem odd that Ford asks for the contact names only, not phone or e-mail addresses.
I guess they can cross reference names to the hundreds of data bases out there to get the rest of the info.

Are you certain Ford isn't backing up data in the event the system gets reset so it can sync?

I don't see why that would be needed. When I connected a new phone, it took less than 30 seconds to update all contacts in SYNC over Blue Tooth.
