I was looking around on amazon and found this locking gas cap, which claims to be for the Bronco/F150, but there's a review saying it fit their 24 Ranger Raptor. Has anyone tried this? And does anyone know if there's a difference between the 24 Raptor and 24 vanilla Ranger gas fill neck? I'm tempted to try it, but apparently it goes on so tight you have to cut it off if it doesn't fit.

And yes, I know, everyone says the easy cap isn't siphonable, but I find that hard to believe when they literally include a funnel in the back of the truck which you could use to siphon with if you were motivated enough.

There's usually a screen past that to prevent larger foreign objects from getting into the tank, an anti-siphon screen, if you will.

Is fuel theft really that big of a problem? I’m truly interested, maybe I’ve missed something.

I’ve never had a locking fuel cap on a car, and never felt the need to retro-fit one.
The ease of use of the Easy cap is a benefit in my view….
In fact In the past I’ve removed locking filler caps from motorcycles for such ease (they seem to almost always have one for some reason)

We used to have 10+ gallons at a time disappear from my family's suburban (40 gallon tank) sitting in our driveway. Happened at least 3 times I can think of before we got a locking cap which stopped it. People see large vehicles here and just think it won't be noticed apparently. Yay for Los Angeles...

But again, purpose of this thread is to find out if anyone has used this. Not to debate its necessity.

Ford used to offer them as I had an insert one for my 2011 Lincoln MKX. It fit into the tank opening and did not protrude above the filler neck.

Locking caps can be a 2 edged sword. They can prevent theft and prevent vandals from putting something in your tank. On the flip side, gas thieves have been known to drill the bottom of the tank when the cap is locked. This is usually on higher clearance vehicles like trucks and vans. A few people on the Sprinter forum have had their diesel tanks drilled while parked on the street, it was on the West coast IIRC, Portland I believe. I've debated getting something myself. This is the first vehicle I've owned in a long time where the gas door doesn't lock with the doors.

Yes I have one on my 25 RR. It works great. For me I was not worried about people stealing fuel. I was more worried about some moron pouring water down my tank.

I saw above someone mentioned that it might need to actually be cut off, to be removed. Not sure how this one secures itself in place... can you verify if after it's secured in place, that the entire cap assembly can still be removed (with the key of course) or once in place, there it stays?
Thanks in advance...

The outer shell does snap on over the cap, It might be removable without cutting it but it would take some doing. So when you use the key to remove the cap, just the cap portion comes off but the assembly stays in place. I guess with a screwdriver and a good bit of time you might be able to hack it off, but its pretty solid and will deter the casual bad guy from attempting anything.

i worry about something happening when traveling and staying at hotels. people stealing fuel was an issue for my son when he was stationed in colorado. it used to happen regularly enough here in corpus that we all got locking caps but no one i know has had an issue since we all had doors that locked when you locked the vehicle. i was bummed to find out hte ranger door doesn;t lock

It looks similar to the one I purchased from Ford for my 2011 Lincoln MKX
