Several Ford dealers in my area offer mobile oil change service along with other services. Does anyone know if they do it the conventional way by draining from the oil pan or do they use a top-side oil extractor? It seems to me the oil extractor would be easier given the oil filter is also located on top for the Ranger 2.7L V6. Has anyone used this service?

I would be interested to now that also, but unfortunately my dealer discontinued that service, and i brought it in to the service bay for them to change it (the old fashioned way) lol.

It's my understanding that you can't effectively use a vacuum extractor with the 2.7 because the dipstick tube doesn't allow access to the bottom of the pan so you can't extract a lot of the oil.

Had Ford Mobile service perform my first oil service and they drained the oil. Also rotated the tires, changed filters, etc., all inside my garage while I waited inside my house! It worked great for me. Highly recommend!

I bought an extractor for my Lincoln. I couldn't use it because of this oil pan design. In the end I don't mind draining from the bottom. It gives me a chance to give the under carriage a good lookover.

I am a 50 year Ford tech and run our Mobile Service Truck. Ours lifts vehicle with jack and jack stands and drains the oil. We do have dipstick extraction equipment; however, we prefer to drain the oil utilizing the drain plug

Thanks for providing the oil pan drawing. It clearly shows that an oil extractor tube will not make it all the way to the bottom of the pan. Where did this drawing come from?

May I ask what the cost for the mobile service was? It sounds like it was the equivalent of "The Works" service they offer which I think is currently running around a $100 for 6 quarts of synthetic blend oil and the other services you mentioned.

It was back in Dec. (2024), I want to remember it was around $115 or so.

I thought I had a browser tab still open which cited the actual source of the image, but I can’t find it. I think I had searched for “ford 2.7 oil vacuum extraction” or some such, then just spent time reading wherever they took me. Here’s a thread on an f150 forum about it:

Just had the mobile service done at my home. Let the tech use my garage. I have a camera in the garage mostly because I question whether I closed it sometimes.

The tech drained the oil on my truck. They wouldn't rotate my stock tires because they are "too big". They did try to charge me for the rotation though and glad I had the video to review to show the work was never done. The service manager said it was a miscommunication between the tech and him.

That is a nice service to have the work done at your home. I'd be interested in knowing how the tech avoided leaving an oil mess in your garage with the stock drain plug. My guess is that they come prepared with tarps and/or cardboard mats.

I used a oil recovery pump I purchased off Amazon worked grate. You just have extract the oil when it's warm and learn how to adjust the depth of the SMALL oil tube down the dip stick tube. It's nice not having to craw underneath and remove the drain plug and the oil filter being on top of the engine, what more could you ask for. It's the best oil change and NO MESS. The oil extractor was around 20 bucks, beats an $66.00 dollar oil change. However it depends on your case-specific. I like to do my own work but that's me.
