I have accoustic glass in my 911, it does what it supposed to but not what the OP wants (and crazy expensive). It is designed to keep the bad exterior noises out like tire roar and let you enjoy the mechanical sounds. The loud cold start is an emissions thing and most cars have it. It's just that the RR has an exhaust louder than most. On startup the ECU is trying to get the cats up to temp as quickly as it can. Again, I have the same in my car. A lot of the Porsche folks have it coded out when they get their cars tuned (I did not, it isn't recommended), but it can cause premature cat issues.

That would explain it...Thanks! So, I wonder if it can be changed in forscan so it STARTS in quiet mode.

forscan may not be able to actually do it. not exhaust related but why i say it may not actually be able to do it.

i tried turning normal mode and eco mode on the trans so it always would start in sport. it got rid of the option to choose those in the menu but started in normal mode anyways, and had a check light to go with it.

so i think the normal start settings are auto settings that the system reverts to as a check function

Looks like all we would need is a larger muffler with 2 inlets and 2 outlets a muffler shop to custom fit it in there. Should be pretty easy for good muffler shop to pull something like that off.

This is a diagram of the exhaust system on a 2.7L Ranger.
The muffler looks much larger.

I am thinking something like this with the appropriate size inlet and outlet pipes to tie back into the rest of the system.

I am thinking the exhaust sound level control valve is not inside the muffler.
Possibly this might be it here in the diagram.
Not 100% sure?
Please post pics of it if anyone knows for sure where it is located.
Could just be a hanger or sensor?????

The muffler has 2 inlets and 3 outlets.
There are 2 valves on 2 of the outlet pipes.
Then all 3 go into an X pipe (it has 3 in and 2 out.)
Then the duals go over the axle and thru 2 tiny resonators, then out the back.

I've been looking at adding a couple of resonators ahead of the muffler. There maybe enough room if they are staggered. These are the ones I'm looking at:
Borla CrateMuffler Resonator

https://www.jegs.com/images/photos/100/157/157-400938.jpg
  • 2.5 in. In/Out
  • 3.5 in. Round x 10 in. Case Body
  • Center/Center
  • T-304 Stainless Steel
Another little larger but cheaper one:
SLP Loud Mouth Resonators
https://www.jegs.com/images/photos/800/847/847-31062.jpg
  • 2.5" ID/OD
  • 4" Body Diameter
  • 18-3/16" Overall Length

These have a smaller outside diameter that may fit better. They are also straight through, so there should be no performance loss.
I wouldn't replace the stock muffler. I saw a video of one, and it is essentially straight thru. So a baffled muffler like on the 2.7 rangers may be too restrictive.

This may be the dumbest topic posted here because I know most people love the raptor exhaust and want to improve it.

I want the opposite. I crave silence as much as possible. I'm looking for any suggestion on how to achieve a quieter exhaust, even if it means removing the active exhaust system altogether.

I am very sensitive to noises, and even quiet mode is too loud for my taste when it comes to prolong interstate travel (rpms above 2k). I bought the raptor for is capabilities and not it's exhaust.

I've never modified the exhaust on any vehicle I've owned in the past and don't know if i should seek out the help of an exhaust shop, dealership, or just a good mechanic.

Any suggestions? Should i be looking at full exhaust systems, mufflers only, or resonators only?

Side note, I've already put sound deadening material in the doors, and will do the roof and back wall soon. I may or may not do the floor as it appears to have a good amount of insulation already. I didn't do it to help with exhaust sounds, but it does appear to have a mild benefit.
Trade your '25 Raptor for my quieter '25 XLT.

I think you're right.
I saw this on the F150 Raptor forum : "Resonated tips smoothed out the sound but not the drone. In fact the resonated tips actually made it have a smooth sedan sound... think Honda Accord V6. Lol. With a highway drone. So it was the worst of both worlds at that point!"

Pre muffler resonators might work though.

Is upgrading to acoustic glass even a possibility?

I have sound deadened my roof and doors as well the front wheel wells and part of the firewall from the outside .

All effective mods, well worth doing in my opinion.

Never heard of anyone selling or offering upgraded acoustic glass .
SoundScreen glass is Ford's acoustic brand. My wife's 2024 Escape has it. Marked on driver side windshield. The Ranger Lariat doesn't seem to have it. Can always call an auto glass shop.

From all reading I've done on this, there are a ton of owners who don't like the tone, and also a lot who wish quiet mode actually was quiet. Lots who want a better tone but louder as well....

If I were going to change anything, I would probably do the trombone pipe in the front, and replace the rear resonators with larger ones.
The best way to get what I really want would be the trombone, and add a quiet resonator to the out pipe that doesn't have a valve. But there's no room to do it. That would make all modes sound "better" but quiet mode would be much quieter.

damn ill trade you my xl. on serious note I would assume the explorer with the 3.0 would be a simple carry over. I can't see any aftermarket companies making quiet exhausts for that vehicle.. might be a custom job for a muffler shop.

Gonna add again, the drone in quiet mode on the freeway is caused by two things: resonators post muffler, and the length of the exhaust.

2 easy solutions. One is remove the resonators post muffler, which will make the truck overall louder, but remove the drone. Second option is adding vibrant 1792s pre muffler, which will really tone down the volume all around, but a tiny tiny bit of drone may linger.

OP, I have very sensitive ears too. Any bit if drone bothers me, but it’s not bad enough in this truck to bother me. I’d recommend you give the 1792s a try.
