All this stripping of prior standard features.
Is making me have less and less hope that we will ever see a push button start in the XL/ XLT modes that they all should have being that we are well into the 2020s. I was thinking most company's abandoned keyed ignitions years ago.
Thank fuck. and I hope there never is a PBS XLT. Thats one of the main reasons I went xlt. no sticky seats, and no shitty PBS. I want my key

Wow I had not noticed that until now!

Your absolutely correct.

They gone!

This is another 26 model I pulled random pics off of cars.com sale listing.

as long as the trucks are prewired for them, just grab a set of 24/25 mirrors off them. my 25 xlt was pre wired for it all to the mirror plug. I successfully added heated mirrors, and will be adding my own puddle/turn signal lights while still in the hunt for a set of oem non tech package lariat mirrors(only heat, turn, puddle lights, no camera) so far non on ebay, and insurance are sending the local rangers right to auction, instead of local scrap yards. so cant even get parts. lol

I absolutely hate keyed ignitions now days, especially after having PBS for so many years now.
I can't imagine ever wanting to go back to keyed ignition. lol 😁

Nope all stock. I think I get flashed because stock Ford has both lights on in low beam. When you change it to high beam it just a internal door/flap that changes the direction for the high beam.
I am skeptical this is the case. I had a car with HID projectors where you could see the motion of the light as something physically moved when you turned the high beams on. My ‘24 Lariat doesn’t look like that at all. In fact it has the cute feature where auto high beams fade in imperceptibly but cut out instantly.

Knowing the ‘24-25 Lariats and RR have the matrix LED hardware it’s more likely that “high beams” are just extra matrix zones that turn on or off. Also a good guess why they’re being removed from the US Lariats: Word is that Ford abandoned activating the matrix anti-glare due to incompatibility of the system to meet US market rules. So there’s a ton of extra cost in those modules that’s sitting unused even in the 24-25 years.

I hated pbs ignitions since I first saw them over 15 years ago when I was working for a car rental company. nissan altmia. we would start the cars at the shop, wash them, then drive them across town, to the airport, park, all while cars were still started at the shop, but now the keys are at the airport. we go back unlock the gate, grab the next few cars, and rinse and repeat. was great that way... but shit for security. and in 2026 ypu can still atart a rig and leave the key out, and can drive anywhere as long as you dont shut the rig off. they are ao much easier to steal, as the technology is there.. meanwhile you need hardware AND software to steal a key vehicle, only software to steal a pbs.

the lariat intelligent access (lock and unlock from touching handle) with push button start

means you never have to touch your key fob.

I really like that feature.

my last truck had a key, just a key, no chip, no fob, just a key. 🔑 No hacking that vehicle.

and those fancy headlights I thought was one of the better reasons to pick a lariat

I’d be reluctant to get a 2026 lariat.

For some reason I am not sure in today’s electronic world that physical key is going to stop a thief from steeling something If the thief is that Sophisticated. Then I am pretty sure when you can still unlock and start vehicles with an app on a cell phone, I believe that feature still works on a keyed XLT. That key is not likely to stop a sophisticated tech savvy thief looking to steel it.

Either way, been loving the PBS feature for a couple decades now and never had any stolen.
I will take my chances and continue to enjoy the convenience of PBS any day over messing with a physical key again.

Which I do still have some older classic vehicles that are keyed as they all were 25+ years ago.
‘Which is fine I don’t mind it, just how it was back then and part of experience with an old truck.
No screens or cameras either, all things I use , expect and probably take for granted in my everyday modern vehicles.

i sure wish i had push button start. i swap between the 19 wrangler, the 18 mazda3, and the 24 ranger and always forget about needing the key in the ignition to actually drive the truck so i have to dig out the keys from the jean pockets while seated behind the steering wheel. that sucks.

the other two vehicles are push to start and we have never had a problem with either. i know people complain that the batteries die faster in push to start since they have that sensing system that wakes up when you get within a certain range but i have not had any problems with it on our current vehicles. i finally had to replace the battery in the mazda, which we have owned since 21. its a touring so its got all the electronic junk on it except the heads up display and the battery lasted 5 years. the wrangler is a 19 that we bought in 23 and zero issues with it or its batteries (yes, its got two because its a hybrid), either. the only vehicle that ate batteries about every 2 years was my nissan titan. it was also fully loaded, minus the cooled seats and sunroof but that thing was battery killer.

i expect zero issues from the ranger battery since its keyed and an stx/xl packaged but we will see.

but it would be nice to have a fob instead of a key to actually drive the truck

I really do wish Ford had included push button start on the XL and XLT. Virtually everything else Ford makes has it on the base models. Except the trucks.

I came from a 2016 plug-in fusion energi (hope ford makes them again for US) and that had a key and my XLT v6 also has a key. I dont mind it actually but only because I'm use to it.

Did they split the cameras out for 2025 J2 builds? I thought 360 was always included for Lariat trim in 2024/2025 - if you want the color match caps.

I don't remember which of the 301 trim or the tech package had the heat/signal/puddle.. tech for the cameras.

I did the Lariat projector headlight swap recently. They’re not truly plug-and-play; either grab the Lariat front-end harness or be ready to repin and change BCM as-built with FORScan. If you’re buying from online auctions, make sure the LED drivers/ballasts come with the housings and ask for 6–8 inches of pigtail—lots of sets show up missing modules. Plan on a full donor and time with FORScan if you go for the full intelligent access route.
