I asked the dealer for a quote on spark plug replacement in my Ranger Raptor and they quoted me $540! That seems absolutely insane to me. It doesn’t look like a terribly difficult job so I think I’ll be doing it on my own. They also said that their induction cleaning service was $330… but it was only $270 on my wife’s aviator with a 3.0L.

anyone else have any datapoints on cost of this service or any insight to difficulties that may come up when doing it myself back near the firewall?

cheers!

Curious, why would a 24 RR need new plugs or induction cleaning?

BTW, retired ATC(AW) here. Thanks for your service shipmate.

With direct injection and no port injection, the induction cleaning at 30-40k miles is not a bad idea to keep carbon build up on the valves under control. As for the spark plugs, generally not a bad idea to swap them somewhere between 30-60k miles in general… I’m more of a preventative maintenance type of guy and prefer to stay ahead of maintenance instead of waiting for a code or other indication that the plugs may be going bad or that valves aren’t seating correctly… that said I went 120k miles on my wife’s Toyota sienna without ever changing spark plugs and it had port injection so I never worried about induction cleaning. Cheers, Chief!

Hi Kyle! Great recent videos, I always appreciate your content. That does seem high, I'm curious if their tech rates are like here, $250 per hour. I changed my plugs to NGK "Ruth" ruthenium (tried new aftermarket coil packs at that time as well) there's no doubt you can knock that out(and of course I'd enjoy any new video as well) Cheers

I was sure these Raptors are port and direct injected. Google Gemini AI agrees.
"The 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor uses the exact same 3.0L twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine, complete with the dual port and direct fuel injection system. The Ranger Raptor was actually introduced to the US market for the 2024 model year, and Ford has carried that exact powertrain over unchanged for the newer models."

I was under the impression the 2.3, 2.7 and 3.0 were all multiport.

Artificial Idiocy = AI. Its a misprint by Ford, the 3.0L was introduced in 2017 as DI and has remained unchanged since then.

The 2.3L only just got dual injection for 25 MY. 3.5L and the 5.0L were the first to get dual injection. The 2.7L was updated in 2018.

There's a big thread on then 3.0L and the electrical schematics confirm its DI only. With that being said, all my Mazdas are DI only and I have no carbon buildup issues with those. 70k on one and 125k on the other.

I jist use factoey synthetic oil and TopTier fuel, I generally dont see many short trips ( < 10 miles) which is the biggest cause of carbon buildup in DI engines, but also in Port Injected engines too.

My dads 2013 Escape has 170k and itd seen nothing but short trips into town for 70k strait as it became a work car after he got his CX-90. No engine issues there either, but he also uses top tier fuels and synthetic oil changed at 5k intervals.

You'll be fine! Stick to regular maintenance with factory fluids in full synthetic, top tier fuel and try to avoid frequent short trips (< 10 miles) as they dont allow for full warmup of the engine that results in accelerated carbon buildup. Also periodic WOT helps, she likes to be driven hard

My 2025 Ford workshop manual only mentions port injection and direct injection for the 2.3L and 2.7L.

The 3.0L only mentions direct injection. Note the image below. This section is part of 303-04C which references the direct injection fuel rail. There is no port injection fuel rail.

Yes the Dealer rates and charges in the Bay Area are certainly inflated, $250 hour labor and one tried to charge me double msrp for fluid and some hardware, after many phone calls it was worked out but very surprising at the time. Although it shouldn't have been, between dealer add on's such as cat insurance, window insurance, "special" ceramic coat, spots of ppf, undercoating, the list goes on
