Today, I noticed that there is half or three quarter inch think white sheet of something on the drivers side down between the cab and the truck box. I have no idea what it is and there isn’t enough room to reach in with my hand to feel what it is made of. It only comes up part way - maybe a third of the way to the top of the box and it doesn’t go all the way across. It looks like it might be styrofoam. I have no idea if it serves any purpose so I am afraid to mess with it. Does anybody else have the same thing on their new Ranger?

Yes it is supposed to be there. For what purpose I do not know. You can look from underneath and see that it is clipped in. You can also touch it and it is a soft foam not styrofoam. Probably for sound deafening effect for something.

I wonder why it's only on one side? Mine is only on the driver side.

It does seem odd it's there and only on one side. But it is not loose and it seems firmly attached to the bed end. My vote is it's supposed to be there and to leave it. Dealers forget to do PDI checklist items a lot, but everyone seems to have this piece leading me to believe it's not meant to be removed

I really find it hard to believe that styrofoam between the cab and bed is part of the finished product. Has anybody seen what happens to weathered and wet styrofoam? It's more likely that it needed to be removed before blending the cab/bed to the chassis but that part of work process is getting overlooked.

It looks more like a thick felt than foam. I tried removing it but I couldn't get a good enough grip on it so I decided I'd leave it for now. I'm not even sure what it is for but I don't like the idea of having it there when it gets waterlogged.

It’s on mine too. I’m assuming it serves some purpose

Everyone has it. There is no clear indication from Ford it shouldn't be there. It's not easy to remove. It's impossible to put back. Why touch it? Leave until there is a clear answer one way or the other.

I am in UK.
Got my Raptor 01-March and noted the same & on drivers side.....and that is interesting as we (in UK) drive on the right hand side...you guys in the USA drive on the left.
I investigated (prior to canopy being fitted) and noted it was definitely a "proper part".
In all it has to be something specific (sound proofing) regarding drive mechanism

It sits immediately behind the cabin air vent arrangement (these are the louvers that allow air to leave the cabin), I would suggest it is there for sound deadening purposes.

Isn't there a vent on the passenger side as well? That's what boggles my mind is why the padding is only on the drivers side.

I'm guessing because the fuel pump is on the driver's side as well. It's the only thing that I can think of that makes noise in that vicinity.

Mine only has the louvred vent on the drivers side (Australia). I know this for sure because I pulled mine apart to install metal fly screen material over the vent to prevent mice getting in. I found one in my glovebox...
The louvres are very easy for them to push open, another member posted images of his louvres chewed through a while back.
And the factory grate isn't small enough to stop them, see image of modification below.
