wires for trailer brake controller '24 Ranger?

The Tekonsha and Redarc both work really well. The pro of the Tekonsha is the lever that you can use to actuate the trailer brakes. The con is that it’s big it can be awkward to find a good mounting spot. The Redarc has a remote knob, so you can hide the unit and find a spot that you like. You have to push in the button to actuate the brake, which is more awkward. Both work well with their accelerometer based braking. I’ve used both, and chose a Redarc on my 5G because I couldn’t find anywhere I wanted to mount my Tekonsha. It’s great that the 6G has a real TBC connector. It was obviously designed with one in mind, so why isnt in the manual, so owners wouldn’t need to sleuth it out themselves?

At the risk of making it obvious that I am dumb as a post about wiring, a Tekonsha Prodigy P3 with a PBT-GF15 connector that mates to the plug that I found on the '24 Ranger XL is sold by E-trailers as item # TK99UR. Same with an E-trailers Tekonsha Prodigy P2, item #TK96HR; & an E-trailers Tekonsha Primus IQ item # TK67HR. Does that mean that those are also plug 'n play for a Ranger, too, or is there something special about RedArcs?

If it will work with the current Bronco then it will work with our current Rangers it looks like. Comes down to the pinout in the connector. If it matches the connector, which is the same as the Bronco, it should work.

My REDARC liberty is suppose to deliver today but unfortunately the REDARC 331-TPH-007 Bronco harness will not get here until Monday. Plan is to slave it in and hang test it while I wait on center console switch panel to come in from Australia from Pirate Camp Co and then do a finish install.

Keep us updated. how do you plan to test it? Do you have a trailer?

My REDARC liberty is suppose to deliver today but unfortunately the REDARC 331-TPH-007 Bronco harness will not get here until Monday. Plan is to slave it in and hang test it while I wait on center console switch panel to come in from Australia from Pirate Camp Co and then do a finish install.

So are you ordering the squeeze connector for the other side of the harness that plugs in to the right of the steering column? If so, this actually looks like the right combination to work. My parts guy at my dealer said he could get that controller but didn't know about the harness. The gray connector looks right for the TRM side, but not sure about the control side.

FYI, the squeeze connector part # is ML3Z14529AC

Ah I see. it has the dial switch. Wondering where that can be installed nicely. Guess there's no way without drilling a hole in the dash panel somewhere or getting some center console panel like Hootbro mentioned. There's no blank panel to put it in on mine like they show in the photos. Would be nice if there'd be some way to use the factory switch or at least that pop out panel by the steering wheel. Surely at some point Ford will put one out....maybe...

This should fit our North American XL and XLT. They offer another model for the Raptor and should fit North American Lariat and Raptors with the 12" screen.

They use the Toyota Short Switch format cutouts. I have on order from REDARC their switch insert for the same cutout:

I will admit I am buying this switch panel at risk assuming it will fit.

Thanks for the credit. I just found a plug where others had shown they had found it on ExplorersST videos. Stranger's electronics expertise was the key. I am very impressed by him & Hootbro & others on this forum.

Good luck, sorry that the TBC soured you on your new Ranger. Seems like the solution is right around the corner! Good luck, what do you think you're gonna buy to replace it?

I just saw your 7-29-24 post. It wasn't just the TBC issue; it was the lack of adequate bed rail reinforcement, so that J- braces, which are backordered, were required to carry > 88 lbs, so no topper. The dealer didn't want to wait much longer to buy back my truck, & his service manager couldn't get an answer from Ford or Tekonsha on TBC compatibility. As I posted, there were also cracks developing in the bed floor after only one 3-mile trip with a light load in the bed. It just seemed that Ford made a poodle, not a Ranger.

I've been looking for a truck. I've found a new RAM Tradesman quadcab V-6 3.6 L e-torque 4wd 6'4" bed for about $13k below MSRP, but it's ~4" taller, 2" wider, & about 16" longer than a Ranger, & it won't fit in my garage. So maybe I'll buy a used Tacoma.

Have you looked at the frontiers? I had a '19 Tacoma. Eninge was wheezy, only a 6 spd trans trans and a complsite bed. Also, only a C type frame, Not fully boxed. Frontier was a Good truck, I had a '22 though a bit on the heavy side, Cast iron spindles, and that's a big piece! But Eninge was great, fully boxed frame, and 8 spd trans. Current Taco is a disgrace IMHO. Let us know what you get! ?
