Am I being too tinfoil hat to think Ford is pulling a fast one on us? Sell them a tune for a great price with some warranty so we can avoid the REAL costs down the road from years 3 to 5. Not unreasonable to think a bean counter came up with this to save a buck and possibly lessen risk of class action lawsuits for powertrain defects. Just a thought. Sadly Ford, most any other big company, or the government are no longer worthy of our trust.

Maybe. Either way, the new “pay for HP” after vehicle purchase is kinda BS. That being said, I purchased the tune as soon as it came out. I feel like this truck has gobs of power that needs to be unleashed. Hopefully someone from Ford reads this and realizes they should just release the full power at purchase. That’s doubtful.

I’m not sure when these “performance tunes” started. I’m not a fan of throwing an extra $8-900 to bring HP and torque up when it could have been done at the factory.

Where I live 91 is the "preferred" premium unleaded. 93 is E10, 91 is E0. I use both depending on where I stop for fuel (E10 is mandated in emissions controlled counties). Performance is about equal between the two, but mileage is better w/91. The tune (at least on Bronco) will actually run 87 w/out causing engine damage, but will have to "detune" itself to compensate for knock. I would reccomend that anyone who plans to install the tune starts using 91/93 now in order to get a "baseline" idea of what performance and mileage will be purely from improved octane...then see what the tune does to build on that!
At my altitude over 5800 verticals feet, running 87 would cause knocking and issues. Not going to chance that.

91 octane/10% ethanol is the countries norm. I wish we had 93 here but no joy. We used to have VP Racing stations with 104 octane but they closed. ???

Does nobody here understand that ANYONE CAN INSTALL OR UPDATE THIS TUNE AT HOME?’
Ask me how I know…

I have the FP tune on my Bronco, and when we took it to Moab, there were a few stops in CO which didn't have any premium, and I had no choice but to get fuel. I had no problems, just filled w/whatever was best available

My tin foil hat take is that there were engineers pushing for this to be the stock tune for the RR and Ford said they didn't want to release the Ranger Raptor with the same specs as the base F-150 Raptor and make the F-150 look underpowered by comparison so they sat on this until now and offered it like this so at base level the F-150 Raptor still looks faster.

Just advice, always keep a bottle of STP octane boost under the back seat.

I like the wording of your label better than STP! I just use it because its been around forever. Im curious, have you ever added any to 93 octane gas ?

Sounds like a very reasonable theory to me too.
