I just learned of this "issue" last night. I'm supposed to get my new truck today. I planned on installing a bed rack in 2 or 3 days.

I asked the dealer. The brace kit is unavailable, with no expected delivery date.

I think I have to back out of the deal. My trade has a rack with accessories. I was clear that I would take the accessories off to put on a new rack on the new truck. The salesguy should have known about this, and knowing my intended use, should have told me.

I'm supposed to get the truck in about 3 hours, so I have that long to think about it.

The kits have been shipping. I have a kit/set to get rid of. A couple of us at least ordered kits and then found when our trucks were finally delivered that the truck had been produced after an upgrade and don't need 'em.

If your truck was built after early September you don’t need the j brace. Ford redesigned it. Search threads on here for photos and more detail

It's not that I don't believe you, but Ford and the dealer have both said... today ... that the kit is needed, is unavailable, and has no availability date.

Frustrating.

What's the production date (on door jamb 'nameplate') of the truck in question? Who you going to believe? I have tuck, photos, order date of kit, receipt, kit in hand... This site is a bit of a tangle of threads on any subject matter. Tedious, but I recommend you peruse... All this is meant to be helpful, but the tone above is a bit cold. Bear with us. Hope you figure this out and get a bed rack installed and start enjoying a new truck! Cheers!

My wife received her ranger raptor in April, and we had j braces put on It. I received my ranger raptor in October, I had a set of j braces before it got here and I asked the dealer to look it up to see if we need them because I heard we don't anymore from someone in these threads. He looked it up and said, you are correct, you do not need them, you have a new design. They didn't know that either, the only reason they knew that. It's because they had put them on my wife's. So this is a learning curve for all of us including the dealers. Your truck was built after October. You don't need them, your dealer just doesn't have that Information yet.

Hope this helps.

I'm not frustrated with this site, and certainly not with you or anyone else here. Ford's communication though is hardly inspiring.

I appreciate the help.

I suspect you've nailed the answer that applies to me. I sure know a lot more than I did this morning. Thanks@

So how'd it turn out? Curious. The info in the door jamb should just be a photo away. Cheers.

Build date is 09/24, so it isn't clear whether the truck already has the updated design.

I made the purchase, and got a written promise from the dealer to pay for the parts and installation when the kit is available.

See this thread: "J - Braces CONFIRMED NOT needed for Raptors after 9/12" for good photos, and of course, lively discussion. Furthermore, in message #23, Dave (MisterSpock) shows that a camera can get a view without taking anything apart. I think you can see the elbow (and therefore, the new design) just by looking up. I'll try to remember to take a photo tomorrow. My XLT (same bed as Raptor edit 19:34 on 4 Jan) is "Date: 09/24" but 09/06/2024 In Production, 09/15/2024 Built, 09/16/2024 Shipped which may make a difference.

My date is 9/24 as well....so I'm curious to! Anyone have a picture of what the update is supposed to look like?

Stolen from another thread. The updated bed looks like this. New is on the left. You should be able to see the difference from underneath.
