Well how about that. Thanks for getting that info. So we have the Ranger runts. I guess there is always a way to get these wired up, but hopefully not in a legally dubious manner. Is your son not concerned about eventual towing?

i went thru a few of the pages trying to find the info.
i have a '25 xlt fx4 with tow package but not the advanced tow.
while my dash is apart for the stereo work im doing i noticed this plug tucked away where the factory TBC switch would be.
if i bought the switch, is there something to turn on in forscan or something to get it all to function?

i remember on the 5G's you could add the terrain mode control knob and turn that on on the lower trims via forscan. hoping the same would work for the brake controller

2024 Ford Ranger Lariat. Attempting to install the RedArc Liberty brake controller using the TPH-007 harness that others on this forum have said worked. It's the one for the Bronco, but now RedArc site says will fit the 2024+ Ford Ranger. Except that it does not. Almost, but not quite.

I need advice on whether to grind the "nubs" from the Ranger's female connector. Or do something else. See pictures below.

Nevermind. Problem solved after looking more closely at the pictures I posted. For those who come along after me and are also unobservant and/or idiots like me: Ford has a blank connector already attached to the female connector. Once I removed that blank connector, the RedArc harness slipped on perfectly. Doh!

Did anyone ever find out the answer to this question? I'm looking to buy a 2025 XL with the standard tow package. Ford's build options do include the integrated trailer brake controller as an additional stand alone option for the XL (under interior options for $275). But I can only find a single XL with the integrated TBC option here in the Denver area. So I am wondering if I can just add the TBC switch which can be found as this part:

https://www.ford.com/product/parts?partNumber=SW8839&sectionId=1020065669

Also, I wonder if the OEM integrated TBC would provide any additional functionality compared to an aftermarket system like redarc.

My first post here! thanks

I think it's more involved that just adding the switch, you also need the Trailer Module, and probably some settings changed with Forscan or by the dealer.
Using a 3rd party would just be hardwiring, no software or other modules needed.

BTW. That link you posted goes to a transmission gasket.

Yeah, I know nothing about Forscan. I just remembered that some one went to the trouble of adding a TBC, but had to get something enabled to allow it to work with pre-collision and auto-brake. Something about the Brake On/Off signal may not be present at the connector.

Hello Forum folks,

With helpnfrom some of you folks (thank you!), & review of other sources, including the Explorerst forum, I have the answer: my 2024 Ford Ranger XL w towing pkg has a connector, labeled with tiny print as a PBT-GF15, zip-tied to a wire cable loom near the firewall about 4 inches forward of the white OBD (code reader) plug, forward of the driver's left knee. Unlike E-trailer's statement on its webpage for a Tekonsha Prodigy P3 for a 2024 Ranger, on my truck there are no separate wires with heatshrink tubing to which wires from the trailer brake connector can be attached. The half of the PBT-GF15 connector that is not wired detaches from the half that is wired and can receive the four bare wires from the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 (E-trailer #90195). To avoid having to connect loose wires to the plug, l believe a customer could order E-trailer's part TK99UR, which is a Tekonsha Prodigy P3 with a PBT-GF15 connector wired to it. That would then plug into the truck's PBT-GF15 wired other half. I've attached a photo of the half of PBT-GF15 connector I pulled from the truck, & a photo of both halves of the connector together attached to the wire loom.

CAUTION: The head of service for the Ford dealer where I bought the truck says to be careful; there may be problems with how an aftermarket TBC works with other electronics (e.g., 'body control module'), & it could interfere with auto emergency braking or damage electronics in the truck. He said Ford does not offer an OEM TBC for XLs or XLT's. So that means that I can't tow more than about 1500 lbs without violating Montana law!

You can now order the STX ranger with a trailer brake control if you order it with the trailer package. Ford is a little late now. Maybe parts for this option will be readily available soon.

Looking more closely at your photo against what I have, I do not have that grey plug. This is incredibly discouraging. I have some poor reference photos from kickplate region and rear bumper wiring as well, wondering if I am essentially bricked to 3000lbs with my STX.
Even though you can't see it well in the 3rd and 4th photos, there are 8 wires coming into that rear harness and theres a blue and violet back there so I THINK that could carry a 7 pin.. but the front is less encouraging.

Are you an STX with no tow/low tow with no hitch and just the 4 pin? And you say you have that grey plug behind the kick panel? Have you taken steps to get anything installed?
