Has anyone noticed their 2025 Oxford White paint seems to ding or chip very easily? I've only had my RR since July and there are several spots (inside door frame, door handles, leading edges of front of truck by headlights etc) where small paint chips reveal a dark primer. They're small, so tiny strikes etc.

One thought - My previous vehicle was dark grey so highly likely Oxford White just "shows" damage more visibly and I'm not used to that.

But - it seems a little fragile to me to see this damage so quickly, especially considering it's a new truck and I have really been "nice" to it.

So - I'm wondering if anyone has noticed this or it's just me?

* I have heard in the past US painted vehicles falls under heavy EPA control - ie. vehicles sprayed in the US tend to have 'thinner' paint than other countries of manufacture.

(and yes, PPF install has been scheduled - I can't imagine running this truck a full winter and going to spring without noticing it. )

Thoughts? Experience?

Yes my 24 has some paint chips on the back fenders, largely due to taking off my running boards.
I did PPF the nose and part of the back fenders when it was new, but still got a few up high above the ppf, as well as the rear black fender flairs are showing some pitting.

You can see in this pic no chips on the PPF maybe a few pits or scarce in the PPF.
‘Right above that faint PPF line you can see I should have had them take that PPF up higher on the rear fenders.

I don't have any in the inside the door or the door handles but I do have a few by the headlights where the fender is wider then the standard Ranger and I also have a couple on the front of the bedsides. Kind of to be expected on any vehicle with wider fenders. Besides what is to be expected I haven't noticed anything wrong with my paint.

I did not get my truck PPF'd, I do however want to get the chips fixed and PPF the impact areas or maybe the full truck.

This may not be helpful, but Toyota has had issues with their white paint chipping and being easily damaged for many years. Related? No idea.

Just some information on automotive paints in general and specifically pertains to vehicles 2018 +, our trucks. Thanks to government regulations, solvent based paints are pushing to be replaced with water based, 70% water as a general rule, while containing 20% solids. Solvent based auto paints can have a solid ratio of 30-60%+ which provide a thicker (in my opinion, better and deeper looking color) as it is much thicker base coat and clear coat by comparison, a big difference. Ever seen show cars/motorcycles etc...that the paint actually looked wet? The paint on our trucks is much thinner all the way around (primer, base coat and clear) and will not hold up to over waxing and rubbing, road rash, auto car washes etc... in comparison to solvent based. So even how we wash and clean our paint has to change to if we want to make it hold up. Think soft, microfiber type for everything. Stay away from chemical based cleaners, bug/tar removers etc....Say you get some swirl marks/scratches from the local scratch-o-matic car wash (I would never use nowadays) You go and get the swirl/scratch remover and electric buffer, you run a very big chance of buffing right trough the thin clear coat and expose the paint underneath if not exceptionally light handed and using a very soft and pliable buffing wheel like a microfiber or fine finish foam one on a slow speed to avoid heat. I would even be extra careful removing scratches/swirl marks by hand. Deeper scratches on the newer finishes can be permanent from the get go as you just don't have the necessary thickness in the paint available to even buff them out. Ranger On! :like:

I have the Raptor splash guards and ppf’d half the hood, lights and doorcups. Been on some heavily sanded highways and no chips thus far. PPF was $850CAD. Coverage also on the mirror caps - money well spent. I’ve always done this living where I live.

My desert tan (very light color) chips super easy. So did the ingot silver on my previous ‘19 F-150. It’s the new water based thinly applied paints of today unfortunately. They all seem to do it. Same issue on my wife’s black Grand Cherokee & son’s Ruby Red Explorer.

Well on one hand, I'm glad it's just not my unit specifically / on the other hand it's a bit of a bummer about the thin paint issues (seemingly industry wide in domestic vehicles)

I was originally thinking I'd just use the heck out of the truck and then re-spray it down the line (for about the same cost as full PPF ) - my caveats : more fragile than expected from the get-go, and some vanity factor. 🤣

This is truly one of those moments where if Ford offered a 2x thick paint on highly affected areas I would have checked that box.

EPA limits VOC output that determines paint technology and application/ containment processes, NOT paint film thickness.
All the OEM manufacturers, N.A., Europe, Asia etc. basically use the same paint technologies and universally have the same stringent specifications for film thickness; phosphate, e-coat, primer/sealer, color base coat and clear coat to be able to warranty their product against premature physical and chemical degradation.
Paint chips are not a solely a result of film thickness. The bond between the layers of paint and the substrate determines the nature and degree of chipping.
The weakest bond is, by design, between base coat and Primer/sealer. This reduces the chance of chipping to metal and subsequent corrosion.
Typically OEM warranties cover, in part, corrosion but not paint chips.

The easiest way to disguise chips on Oxford White is to rub a kids' white crayon over the damage and wipe off excess.

I have an oxford white 24 RR, owned for 18 months and a big YES to paint chips. I just filled 5 different ones with a touchup pen, on hood, near headlights, and near taillights on both fender and tailgate side. Quite a bit compared to all previous vehicles i've owned.

Yep I have a 2024 and had so many hood chips that I ordered and installed the Ford Performance hood protector. I thought the problem was mainly due to the hood design. Since I put that black plastic hood protector on I haven’t had any issues on the hood. Still have a few near the rear fenders but that area wasn’t nearly as bad as the hood.

had mine since June and no chips yet. I kept my stock boards, OEM mud flaps and PPF'd the front, mirrors, door edges and front box side. also avoid tires that poke too far. I have +25 offset Roush wheels which poke out the tires a little and no issues as of yet

Not to get too far off topic, what's the ET on your Roush rims? I was considering 35ET on some Methods @ next tire change. *agree on your PPF coverage fyi / vanity factor. Lol.

what do you mean ET? i dont know what that is, i think lol offset is +25mm offset so its 30 less than the stock. This pushed them out 1.1" over stock wheels. just a little poke and its perfect
