That certainly was a pucker moment. Glad you made it out with just the de-beaded tire 🫣

I was certainly entertained! Thank you for sharing. Looks like a great time, wish I was there.
I have only done mild off roading so far, but now that I have the winch mounted...it's adventure time!

Looks like a lot of fun.
Where was this? Forest Hills area?
I'm near Lafayette, La. and have yet to get my FX4 off road.
Took it to Bogue Chitto ATV Park near Franklinton, LA. It’s a pretty large area with lots of different trails, mud and sand. Be careful though, some of the trails were certainly more for ATV use as I ended up having to back track the truck out of one of them because it got so narrow on it.

I’m jealous of the winch. That would’ve come in handy for sure. Which bumper did you go with for the winch mount?

100% was puckered. I barely thought I’d make it up the hill (because the week prior I didn’t) much less fly off of it.

Even the door stop got stuck? lol

Surprisingly it actually did much better than I thought it would. It got bogged down in a pile of pea gravel but after I pulled it out, it went back through and managed to crawl its way through.

Do you have the Ford beadlock compatible wheels? If not, I'd be willing to trade.

when do the safety features such as airbags determine your fun factor level, or at least determine the end of your fun?
Makes me wonder how close you were to the rollover ones saying "hello, we are here to help you"

That’s pretty cool!

I still think the raptor is a bit heavy on paper, but you can’t argue with results.
2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter Specs & Features | Edmunds
2024 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid Review, Pricing, and Specs
Both top Taco variants ~5,410 lbs

0-60 is ~7.7 sec despite making a combined 326 HP / 465 lb-ft (clearly the hybrid system's additional weight penalty is offset any benefits of the additional power / torque from the electric motor yielding a net zero or even worse acceleration).

Some of the standard TRD variants are in the 7.1~7.3 sec range, but lack comparable off-road performance of the Pro or competitors to the Pro (regular TRD is more like an FX4, very basic lift with stickers and slightly more aggressive tires in 32" size range).

May payload for Pro and TH is ~1,680 lbs
Towing is 6,000 lbs

2024 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison First Test: Protection Has Its Price
5,272 lbs

ZR2 rides on Goodyear Territory M/T's 285/70R17
ZR2 Bison rides on Goodyear Territory M/T's 315/70R17

0-60 is ~7.3 sec with 1-ft roll out (I prefer C&D's method with 1ft rollout which mirror drag racing)

May payload is only 1,050 lbs
6,000 towing for ZR2
5,500 towing for ZR2 Bison

Tested: The 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor Has Our Full Attention
5,372 lbs

On 285/70R17 BFG KO3's

0-60 is ~5.3 sec
0-60 is ~4.8 sec w/ Pro Cal only

Max payload is 1,372 lbs (or 1,410 depending on source)
5,500 towing

2024 Jeep Gladiator Mojave Pickup Keeps On Truckin'
2024 Jeep Gladiator Mojave Specs & Features | Edmunds
~5,100 lbs aka the "light weight" of the bunch, also worst break-over @ ~20 degrees due to 1ft longer wheelbase than its competitors, but best approach angle.

On 285/70R17 Falken WildPeak M/T's 285/70R17

0-60 8.3 sec due to the weak sauce NA V6

May payload 1,200 lbs
4,500 towing

Yah the Raptor is not the best in towing or payload, but it's comparable to others. It's weight is on par with the two trucks and the gladiator is a bit lighter but as a much weaker powertrain, lower payload and towing, excellent approach but poor breakover (its looooonnngggg).

I'd say the RR is pretty darn good!

Plus, the pow train on the RR is in a league of it's own, especially after the Pro Cal, the Live Valve shocks are the best performers for jumping / high speed, but are on the stiff side for low speed off-road compared to what's in the Rubicon's or other similar vehicles (lower damping rates give them a bit softer rid our rough terrain, but lack the damping to handle higher speed impacts without bottoming out harshly).

yes, I am well aware of how fat “mid size“ trucks have gotten. I’m surprised some of them don’t sink in to the asphalt all the way to the center of the earth on hot days. 😉

same category of truck a couple of decades ago would be at a half ton lighter.

my lariat is almost a half ton lighter than a raptor. I know different categories of truck but at some point lighter can be better.

I agree that the Toyota hybrid power train has the added benefit of more cost, complexity, and weight with little gain if any in performance.

another check mark in the box against the taco in my quest for a new truck

The cyber dumpster is hilarious. I loved the audio on the footage of the Jeep rescue! 💪🏻 I guess all you needed was the beadlock? Great photos and video. Thanks for sharing.

I remember about 25 years ago seeing and add for a Lexus(?). You had the option for traditional ICE, or for about $15K more, a hybrid. That hybrid gained about 3 MPG. At gas prices back then, you would never recoup the additional costs.
