Hey guys just trying to figure out what is normal here. I got my Ranger XLT 2.7L V6 two weeks ago and have been loving it so far. Only 400 miles on it so far but my fuel economy has been a bit worst than I was expecting.

Getting between 16-17 MPG with an even mix of highway (70 MPH), country back roads (45 MPH), and city driving (25 MPH stop and go). At best, I got 19.5 MPG on a pure highway drive that we did for 80 miles, but with my normal driving I am still between 16 and 17 MPG.

Is that normal? Maybe my engine is still breaking in? I'm only driving in Normal mode, and I like to give it some gas sometimes to enjoy that amazing engine but for the most part I am cruising under 2k RPM. Thanks all!

I have just over 4,000 miles on my 2025 Lariat since October 2025. I am getting 22.2 MPG per the vehicle gauge. Have not done any calculations other than that. Most of my RPM is at 1400, occasionally 2K, and I drive the speed limit. I use Normal setting only.

It’s still early days mate. Give everything a chance to bed in and for the computers to figure itself out and calibrate everything. You’re still well within engine break in period too

you’ll have a better idea of a normal fuel usage after 2,000 miles or so

I got about 24mpg average until my 5000mile oil change. I put on 1.5in leveling blocks up front, a wagner intercooler, and removed the intercooler slats at that point as well, been getting 21.5-22 ever since.
For reference I put about 25k miles on it its first year covering a midwest territory, 85% highway/hilly-twisty country roads, 15% city.

I dont drive the speed limit. I have a heavy foot. I do 140+km/h on my commute about an hour in the am, and an hour back in heavier and slower traffic. I am averaging 12L/100km. which is about 19 mpg.
Ive heard new vehicles run rich during break in, take it for what its worth. everything is still tight on a new vehicle.

It will get better as the engine breaks in - I was getting 17 average the first thousand or so miles I'm at 4600k now and the truck averages about 20 mpg between highway and city driving with more city / rural driving usually for me. I also run 91 octane just FYI.

It could be still breaking in. In my commute driving I average just over 26 in normal, maybe an extra .25 in eco, and about 24-24.5 in sport. That's also with only a few stops, and I probably average about 35 between in town roads and 60 mph highway, certainly good for mileage. To be fair, I haven't calibrated against hand calcs, yet, that's what will happen starting the current tank.

In town driving (but not urban stop and go), I get about 17 in sport mode, haven't checked in normal or eco.

Let it break in, make sure your foot is fuel efficient, and if it doesn't improve after a few thousand miles, then maybe complain to the dealer.

Edit for reference: I run 87 octane because it hasn't made a difference for my driving. Even in town in sport mode and punching it as much as I can in traffic, the truck barely lets it get a blip of boost it seems. But I need to get a real boost gauge to verify.

Sounds like we're in the same boat. What mileage are you at? I'm hoping by 2,000 miles it improves!

Only drove 18 miles to work today but got 18.7 MPG so that's a bit better...

Patience, it takes more milage to break in. Mine was 17-18mpg early on. Now with 3500 miles currently it’s up to almost 21mpg. I drive in sport mode and fairly aggressively but no stop and go city driving, mostly highway and back roads. I don’t think you have anything to be concerned about.

I've got the XLT 2.7. I drive too fast. And I put BFG KO3's on...factory size, not larger...I think 33's? Mine gets about 19 on mostly highway...which is about 1 or 2 mpg's better than when it was new, I think? I've put 22K miles on it in one year. I love it.
