Is the 1000 mile break in oil change a good idea or waste of money?

I did mine at 2500 or 3k but i totally understand the reasoning of doing it st 500 miles, or 1k miles. Since the engine is new, all the internals are wearing in to each other so there is more particles floating around to possible clog or get into something (like a main bearing, or one of those types of bearing surfaces that could be grooved or scarred up).

Its totally up to you, if you feel its beneficial or not. Its not called out by the oem so they feel its not but when nissan put a new engine in my 2017 titan, they wanted it back at 500 miles for an oil change so nissan felt it beneficial

Just me too I waited the full year and had 5500 miles on mine went full synthetic instead of the semi they put in it. I don't drive that much other than to work and back. No big trips yet like my last truck.

I will be getting mine changed this week for the first time and I am at almost 1800. Dealer recommended I get it changed at 2000. I don’t think it’s a bad idea to get your first oil change done under 2500, personally I wouldn’t wait past that though. With the Ecoboost I have always heard you should be getting your oil changed more often then you usually would due to the small passage ways in the turbocharger.
To each their own though!

I brought this up to my dealership when I took it in after 3,000 miles and they said it's a waste of time & money and you should just follow the typical 5,000 mile interval for oil changes.

mine just got its second oil change last saturday. i have a trip to omaha nebraska in about a week and the wife and i are driving up so i wanted to be ready.

first change went to mobil1 full synthetic and this recent one went to royal purple. i like mobil1 and the truck seemed to also but the royal purple seemed to make it even quieter. maybe its because the engine is wearing in nicely, who knows? but its just a hair over 6k miles and smooth and quiet.

my wife's 2019 2.0 turbo wrangler like the mobil1 but i think i am going to do royal purple on its next change. it gets them at 5k since its got 50k miles on it

After today my truck will have about 950 miles on it. Going to change it to some Pennzoil Ult Plat then change again at 2500, then again at 4000. Then every 4000 miles thereafter going forward. I want to keep this truck for a long time. Early oil changes from it's creation is a good idea IMO plus it's cheap insurance at least for me. I do my own changes in the garage and it's $50 between the oil and filter.

I changed mine at 1k. I used moble 1 synthetic. I used an recovery system from Amazon sure makes it easy, the oil must be warm tho. Pull the dip stick slide the small tube down you will have to adjust the depth. Connect the cables to the battery, don't forget to place the other tube in a recovery container. Filter on top of engine easiest oil change I've ever done. I recovered all the oil put 6 qts back in oil level at the proper mark on the dip stick. The items were all purchased off of Amazon much cheaper. Good day..

Did mine at 1000 miles a couple of weeks ago so I'd feel more comfortable with heading for the Sierras next month with fresh, clean oil.
