Had my 1st odd experience this morning backing out of driveway.

I’ve had in the past experienced several times when backing out of the driveway, the backup system beeped an alert, even though the was no one else anywhere.
I attributed it to maybe the water in between the road and the driveway.

Today however, not only did it beep ( loudly and insistently), but it also automatically applied the brakes. And there was no water this time.
The road did have a some frost on it. I tried to continue backing up and the brakes automatically applied again.
Both times the bottom of the infotainment system display had the Red alert bar display all the way across the bottom.

Anyone had a similar experience?

Just backing out of the garage. Was close enough to the edge of the door and maybe I was backing too fast but it jolted to a stop and the passengers did not like it lol. Never in open space though.

I've had a similar issue but my driveway has a slope at the end. If I'm backing out, the sensors are pointed right at the ground so they start beeping about it thinking it's a wall/car/etc.

I also have mailboxes on the other side of the road and my truck did auto-brake the first time I backed out. I immediately turned that feature off, otherwise I would never be able to back out of my driveway or back into my garage.

It does get bothersome when it's not functioning perfectly or as intended. A wall/concentrated mass of air like a 18 wheeler driving by will trigger the sensor at times.

My driveway slopes a little at the end also which may have something to do with it,
But I’ve had the Ranger for 4 months and it’s just recently started doing this In the last 2 weeks.

What’s puzzling is it doesn’t do it all the time. I haven’t had it do it enough time to figure out what might be triggering it. It has been pretty cold (4 - 18 degrees) when it’s done it, and like I mentioned before there has been water/ice and frost involved.

I’ll keep an eye on it and see if I can find a common event that triggers it.

I think the sensors are too sensitive: generally aimed too low. Most mornings, I can back out of my basically level drive just fine, but if the light is just right, I have to turn the system off entirely.

This has happened to me a couple time, though I don't think it's gotten to the point of automatically breaking, just the loud warnings. I attributed it to the fact that my driveway slopes down slightly and then the road is flat or even slightly up. I assume the sensors read the approaching road when I drop out of the driveway as an obstacle. But it doesn't happen every time.

Automatic brake assist when backing out of my garage almost gave me heart attack a few times. I avoid it by keeping my foot on the brake pedal while backing out. It seems to help.

It’s good to know I’m not the only one experiencing this. Thanks all..

I had a similar experience every time I backed out of my garage. The brakes would automatically apply. I would have to put it in drive pull back in and try it again. Would happen so often I finally had my dealer fix the problem by going into settings and turning off the appropriate app. Very frustrating. They told me it was a sync 4 issue but they say that about everything.

Mine reacts to the curbs in the parking lot when backing at work, even though the lot is flat.

Automatic brake assist while backing can be a bit frustrating and surprising, lol. Although it means well, I turned mine off.

I have the same issue as others with the steep driveway. It will warning beep at the bottom if I go super slow but if I am going the speed I would with ever other vehicle I have used it has applied the brakes a few times and annoyed the hell out of me.

The only way I know to stop it from happening is to turn off the parking sensor EVERY TIME I put the truck into reverse before going down the driveway. It's the slider in the bottom right of the screen when in reverse with the camera on.

You can permanently delete it in the driver assist settings if you want.
