Cool. I hope they use that in the Ranger.

My only driving complaint is actually just a flash-back to the days or rear wheel driver vehicles. This thing is basically a 1990 F-150 with 3x the torque and double the horsepower. With no weight in the back, the rear wheels spin very easily. It takes a gentile foot from a stop if you want to take off fast, and safely driving in the rain definitely requires awareness that you are in a very high torque rear-wheel-drive truck.

As the owner of a Mustang with more than twice the HP of the 2.7 Ranger, I sort of kind of have an idea of what that's like.

Threw together a quick video about my thoughts of the 2.7 after about a week of ownership and a few things i've done.

TLDR Version: engine is awesome, super smooth (to the point i'm questioning if i need a AS/S eliminator) and has plenty of power very low in the band. I question Ford's choice of having an actual key for the XLT model (like seriously: wireless carplay but a turn key). Its a great truck.

Enjoy!
V6s are inherently unstable. You need a multiple of 4 to be inherently stable. 4-8-12. Because it's a 4 stroke motor. Keys are safer when considering runaway acceleration. I am glad i have one.

Yes V6's shake a bit. However the firing forces are balanced on a 60 degree bank angle. They fire every 120 degrees. Motor mount design takes care of that bit of shake.
I've owned inline 4's, 6's, V6's and V8's. IMHO the 2.7 is a gem of a motor.
They are silky smooth all the way to redline.
As for runaway acceleration, the procedure to shut down is simple. Apply the brakes, shift into neutral, push and hold the start button until the engine shuts down.

Nice truck! I also have a V6 XLT on order (Iconic Silver). How is the stock stereo in this version?

Lol, flat 4s are super smooth, inline 4s less so. In terms of real world NVH, V6s are way smoother than I4s.

maybe if they have Balance shafts. The sixes have a miss fire on every second rotation. It's just a fact.

I6 would be the smoothest but too long to put under the hood of a Ranger.

Mercedes made an inline 6 with no accessories on the front, solves the problem of it being too long. Ford probably has enough 6 cyl engines though.
