I'm new here, thanks for letting me join. I'm going to pull the trigger on a 24 Ranger today. My options are a 2.3 XLT Fx4 or 2.7 XLT Sport. I won't be towing with it or off roading. Just the usual truck stuff. I'm deciding on one of those two because they are giving me the best deal on my 2023 Lightning Lariet trade in. Do I really want the 2.7 or is the 2.3 good enough? Any recommendations or advice on which truck? Thanks in advance.

Either way, you are getting a 4x4, as the 2.7 is only available with 4x4.
The 2.3 has plenty of power, even for someone who tows a lot. There are several owners of the 5G
Ranger that regularly tow 5k+, and that was available only with the 2.3.
I have the FX4 with the 2.7. I had a '21 RWD with the 2.3. I notice little differences in my day-to-day driving, other than a -2 MPG, which is either because of the 2.7 or 4X4, or both.

So, IMO, the 2.3 is plenty good enough.

I have 2.3 XLT FX4 and it has plenty of power for what I use it for. Gets better gas mileage too

I have the 2.7 in my Bronco and if I had to do it over I'd get the 2.7 again. Lots of torque down low and decent power on tap any time. I get decent MPG too driving with a light foot- over 22 MPG. I recently installed dual MBRP CAT back exhaust and it sounds real good (for a V6). Reading about the same topic 2.3 versus 2.7 on the Bronco forum, the 2.3 is way more than adequate and the 2.7 gives a little extra torque. Good choice either way- I would test drive both and see which one I would like better.

2.7L, Go BIG or go home! I have the 2.7L in our XLT FX4 and love it. Well worth the extra $2,000 bucks. Take it from a retired FoMoCo experimental / prototype engine mechanic.

I have the XLT with the 2.3, it has plenty of power and gets good gas mileage. I think the 2.7 is a twin turbo and to me, that's twice as many things to go wrong.

Definitely the 2.7. You won’t regret it. I have a range raptor and a two-door bronco with a 2.7.
I prefer the 2.7. There is just something about that engine that works well in a mid-size truck. Not to mention you get direct and port injection on the 2.7.

The wet belt for the oil pump is an absolute no from me.

I have an XLT Sport with the 2.7. My son has a 2.7 in his F150 with 270,000 miles on it with only oil and filter changes. Don’t worry about the “wet “ belt on the oil pump.

The wet belt is not as much a problem as people think. They are not a high-failure item. I asked the service manager at my local dealership about it and he said he has never had a failed one come through his shop.

After having 2 problem free F150's with the 2.7 engine the decision was easy for me when I decided to downsize to a Ranger. The 2.7 issues that the 4 banger folks harp on were resolved years ago.

The truck is pretty quick with the 2.7 also. Not fast, but in 55 years of owning cars I’ve had huge V8s that didn’t make anywhere near as much power. Just glad it has Traction Control .
