Good afternoon. Was wondering if anyone has done the Ford performance calibration on their 2.3 engine in their Ranger? Wanted to know if it is worth doing or if there is any risk in harming the engine or shortening it's life?

Lots of us have it. It workes great and improves the transmission shifting, too.

If it was going to damage the engine or shorten its expected life, i dont think ford would put their name on it.

But mines been on for 8k, i think, and no issues

Installed mine couple months back. So far about 2500-3000 miles and it’s great. Definitely helps trans shifting and you really feel the power difference. Mileage is about the same maybe better.

but if it bothers you because of the cost of gas, you can run the normal engine tune for daily use and swap to the procal tune when you are doing something particular that you feel warrants the more fun.

the price difference between regular and unleaded is not enough to bother me so i just run the tune all the time. my previous truck also required 91 and had a larger tank so this still feels cheaper to fill up

I got mine online for $688 then installed it myself. You can get the dealer to do it. I think they charge an hour labor.

I've read conflicting articles. Some say the warranty is void if you install it yourself , others say it isn't. Anyone actually know which it is for sure ?

There are no reports that I know of ford voiding the warranty, but the official message (paraphrased) is that ford can void the warranty if it isn’t installed by a certified mechanic or ford dealership. That does NOT mean a blanket void of the warranty - it means that if they can prove the tune caused an issue they won’t warranty that specific issue.

in my opinion this is a high bar and as long as you don’t brick your truck installing it, it’s going to be hard for them to prove. As a user you can’t change the tune (to my knowledge) and so if the tune is endorsed by Ford and you install it correctly the risk is pretty low. Others take a much more conservative approach here and don’t want to give ford any excuse not to honor the warranty.

fwiw it was not possible for me to have a dealer install mine due to geography (island) and I installed it myself. Very easy install and it undoubtedly added meaningful torque and hp. I have a 50/50 bov on my vehicle and it was pretty quiet prior to the install and it activates a lot more afterwards which would tell me the truck is running more boost.

FYI, this has been discussed many times on the forum so you can find a lot more opinions here.

Somehow Ford sent my dealership a tune kit for an F-150. Ugh. The dealership was able to get one from another nearby dealership and install it the next day. So I've had it for a couple days now.

I haven't really opened it up yet, just one commute and a couple errands. But the increase in power is noticeable, especially in sport mode. I've tested a Raptor and it's still nowhere near that fun, but that's to be expected. Ford was offering a discount around the 4th of July so I got it installed for about $750 total. It was worth it IMO.

However, I will say that it did nothing to improve the transmission in sport mode. The shifts are still a bit wonky, especially when it's not yet fully warmed up.
