After inspecting a few things on my 25 Ranger with the 2.3L, I confirmed that there is room and it is possible to remove and install the oil filter, from underneath the vehicle, while changing the engine oil.

I also have a 2025 Ranger with the new 2.3. In your opinion, would it be easier to change the oil filter from the top, or from the bottom?

top and wheelwell for me. couldn't reach from the bottom. top was tight, and wheelwell you have to remove the liner, or bend it out of the way.. got a lil crease in it now. filter is directly behind the liner behind the rear of the upper a-arm I originally replaced from top(well reinstalled as dealer gave me filter for my old escape and not the ranger) thrn swapped through the wheelwell. (trying to upload pic but website on my phone 99% of time wont attach pictures lol(

I reached down, but needed a ladder to get up high enough, then lean on the engine with one hand and reach down with the other. Not terrible, but certainly not convenient.

The way I'm going to do it, when the time comes to do the first oil change, I'm going to reach up from the bottom with a filter removal tool, to break it loose then go the rest of the way by hand. I've already checked and there is ample space to get it done. Installing the new one is easy hand tightening process.

The process is a bit complicated for 24 and older Rangers with the 2.3l but the 2025 has easier access to the filter, I reached up to the filter from underneath the vehicle without a problem.

Yes, this thread is about the new 2.3L MPC engine in the 2025 Rangers. It is significantly different than the 2.3L engine in the 2024 and older Rangers. In fact, I have read that the 2025 2.3 even takes a different oil filter than the 2024 and older 2.3’s. It looks like the 2025 2.3 engine takes an FL2127 (NU2Z6731F).
In my 2025 model, I can see the oil filter from the top, but I have yet to crawl underneath to see if I can access it from below. This thread has been very helpful to me.

I'm not sure if the oil filter is different for 2025 but there are two versions with different threads, a 22 MM thread and a 3/4 in thread. Air filter still the same.

Ok. Thanks! I am going to have to try to see if I can read the numbers on the filter that is installed in my new truck…

'25, the filter is a fl2127. my dealer accidentally gave me a 901s for my old '12 escape..... didnt realize till I went to screw it on to put oil in.... lol almost same size. and different thread size and hole. put old filter back on. fill with new oil, beat it into dealer exchange filters, and then go back home.

I also found out then you can change the filter on the truck. I jacked the driver side up as high as I could in my buddies garage, and went in through wheelwell to swap. only lost the oil from the filter. spun new on.

for some reason the website on my phone will never load a picture to post it. but I do have a few pictures I could pm.

the filter the truck rolls off the line with is a "ford" black filter and the one the dealer gives you is a white motorcraft one.

So I did some recon today and I think maybe underneath from the direction of the catch spigot is the direction.

There is kind of a notch in the wheel well you could come in but man there is a bunch of little stuff behind it

Coming from the top. Possible. Wear long sleeves

Do we know what size the factory filter is?

M22-1.5 is the correct thread size. The manual wasn’t up to date and I luckily had another vehicle to get a proper sized one. I asked to a 24 up Mustang Ecoboost filter.
