Once I realized that the spare-tire lowering mechanism on the Ranger is protected by plastic plug, I purchased the OEM spare tire lock.
My dad had two spares stolen off his trucks over the course of his life. He eventually started using a chain and padlock wrapped around the spare and the frame and it never happened again. Sure, the chain could have been cut. And sure, this lock doesnāt guarantee your spare wonāt get stolen. But it might frustrate a thief enough to make them steal someone elseās spare instead.
