Fuel Injection Service Recomendation

I just took my 2024 in for an Oil change and the A pilar Air bag recall (that they couldn;t do). Service said the only recommendation was a $375 Fuel Injection service every 20k. Mine has 21K miles. What is this? Is it necessary? What do they do spray some seafoam into the intake? is this a Ford recommended maintenance item or are they trying to upsell unnecessary stuff? Can we do this ourself? What does it consist of? thanks in advance

They put some stuff in the tank and through a line to the injectors, if I remember right when they wanted me to do that

The owners manual should tell you if that's needed.
I call "Upsell bullcrap."

When I was turning wrenches once in a while I'd see a work order with a ton of upsell crap on it. We had a service writer with an angelic face but she was a snake... Customer might say- Is there any other maintenance I should do while I'm here? She would smile and say welllll...have you done this, or that?...
And suddenly a 2 item repair order becomes a 12 item repair order. At $229 per hour....

The service writers had a list called Menu Items. Some were accessories installed, some were services. Accessories were usually a pretty good deal, hard for us techs to make money. But services....I've always felt sorry for folks who were mechanically inept and have to pay big bucks for easy maintenance

If you have the raptor with the direct injection only 3.0, or the older 2.3 with direct injection only, you might want to run some cleaner (seafoam, etc.) through the intake now and then. But definitely not for $375, walnut blasting probably costs less than that ...

If you have the 2.7 or the newer 2.3 with port injection, it shouldn't matter, ever. Part of the reason I went with the 2.7.

They call it fuel injector service and not intake service though, I gotta wonder if they do anything more than add a bottle of $5 cleaner to your fuel tank. Dealers know that some people will pay for it every 20k, too...

Injector cleaning and intake cleaning are separate things, not the same thing being called two different things.

Thanks everyone. I think I'll simply run a can of Techron thru the tank. I should have done that before my cross country drive last week.

At ~20k, there shouldn't be any issues with you injectors. That said, depending on what gas you use, there may already be PEA (the techron detergent) in the gas.

I buy only Top Tier fuel unless it's not available and I have to get gas. I run a container of Techron in the tank with each oil change.

I have a '24 with 2.7, so it has combination fuel injection. I expect my injectors and intake valves will be clean for a long time. At some point when it's time for new spark plugs, I'll have the intake inspected.

That doesn't make her a "snake". It's offering a customer options for real service items and the customer can say yes or no.
This is why most small businesses fail. Because they are started by operations/blue collar type people that don't understand how to run an actual business.
Now, if someone tells a customer a blatant lie with scare tactics thrown in, sure, thats being highly dishonest.

I've read from long time techs that the ecoboost engines shouldn't have the fuel system cleaners in them. Not sure thats accurate but I've seen enough explanations as to why from enough people I've stayed away from it.
I run 93 octane in my 2.7L every 4th or 5th tank. Hoping that the combo injection keeps the system clean for a long time.

Top Tier fuels contain the chemical that is branded Techron. There may be some fuel cleaners or injection service that shouldn't be used on Ecoboost engines, but I've seen nothing to make me shy away from Techron.

As for octane, I run premium when I'm towing or otherwise operating at higher loads. That said, my current understanding is that boosted engines ALWAYS benefit from higher octane
