How does the RR do on Roadtrips?

I have had mine a few long road trips. The day I picked mine up it was a 5 hour road trip home.
That was probably the best mine ever got; it was a lot lower speeds (55-65mph) 2 lane highways.
Truck got around 20-21mpg.

Now that I have it all setup with a little larger 10ply tire, rack and tool box and tools etc. ( Around 400-500#s in the bed most of the time). Running 80-85 out on the interstate bucking our typical 15-30mph wind speeds we get here in the central planes. I tend to get 13-16mpg depending on how fast and what direction the wind is blowing.

Round trip Austin, TX to Cahone, CO, plus drive up and down to the San Juan Forrest through mud and snow. Two adults, and truck full of hunting gear, etc. You can see the average speed.

Actual mpg calculation is pretty close to the on board calculation.

Last month I did 2 14-hour trips in the RR. Was great. I was getting around 19 mpg. It seemed to me that I got better economy around 70mph(which sucks cause I wanna go fasssttt).

I was very comfortable as the driver. Had my 1 year old in the back in his car seat and didn't hear any complaints.

I did have 2 minor complaints. 1) road noise could be a little much on the highway but I think that's likely caused by the offroad tires so you just have to crank the stereo up a bit. With exhaust on silent mode it was still relatively quite. 2) Constantly having to jerk the steering to clear the warning for active driver assist got old really fast. Not a deal breaker but still, it should be longer than 15 seconds before it pops up. Especially annoying when you're just driving straight for a while.

Curious about the sound level you mention. Can you compare that to other vehicles for reference? I can say my former '23 Tacoma TRDOR was noisy compared the the '17 F150 I traded for the Tacoma.

Sold a '19 Ranger to purchase the '24 RR. Have driven 3x 1,000 mile trips, two non-stop. Although the '19 was very comfortable (6'2"/230lbs), the Raptor beats it hands down for long-distance comfort. Very quiet, surprisingly so given the KO3s. No wind noise to speak of either. Plenty of power for any mountain - of course.

Efficiency. Manufacturers spend huge money and countless hours in the wind tunnel for the best efficiency. Fines are significant for non compliance of CAFE requirements - last year Stellantis $295M, Ford and GM close behind. In Europe, Stellantis also has about the same in Euros for not meeting CO2.

Manufacturers seem to have optimized economy around 65MPH. MPG falls off pretty good above that. If you are not in a hurry (difficult in the Raptor) slow down. I live in a rural area and am 35-60 miles to groceries (depending on direction). Kills a half day driving fast or slow, so its 60-65. MPG is 22. At 70 it's 20. At 75 it's 19 plus and at 80-82 in Utah its 18. All at steady state freeway speeds. Periodically make a 135 mile one way trip, 2/3s of which is through thee canyons at speeds of 55-58, steady state, the remainder is 70, 23 plus MPG.

What do you use to keep your cold stuff fresh on your way home from the store? Cooler, plug in cooler, insulated bags?

During the summer a cooler or an insulated "cool bag" with the bags being placed in the back seat. Our cold weather lasts from mid-October to mid-May so don't use anything special to insulate food items, the bags are placed in the truck bed.

Last December I ordered a hind quarter of Iowa beef. The truck was built in January and delivery was expected in Feb/Mar to my dealer. No worries about the meat thawing during those months, but the truck was not delivered until 22 April. Purchased a styrofoam box and 20 pounds of Dry Ice. Picked up the meat one day and made the two day drive the following day. The meat was still hard as a rock. BUT ... my neighbor, who had also purchased a hind quarter from the same vender in Iowa had a different experience. His meat was also still frozen when we unloaded it in his garage freezers. No problem ... then, and while he was gone, we had a couple of hours of power outage. Because of the way he wanted his new house configured, the power remained off to his garage. His auto generator came on for the rest of his house but not the garage. He was gone for a couple of weeks and of course all his meat spoiled. He tried to remove the smell from the freezers but was unable. He threw away not only the meat, but the two freezers. An expensive lesson. He has since rewired his generator to support the garage.

Comfortable enough for me to drive all day.

I was annoyed by the hands-on wheel reminder until I learned about resting a bit of your arm weight on one side of the wheel. The amount of weight is just enough for the wheel to think you are actively using it but still let it go where it wants. Anyone who drives with their knees, the same light pressure on the bottom of the wheel can work quite nicely too.

I received mine in June this year and have put 17k+ miles on it. 1000 miles from dealer to home, 1000 miles honeymoon trip, 4000 miles to Colorado/offroading and back. I have nothing but good things to say about the comfort and driveability. It’s plenty quiet, stereo is great, comfortable seating, and great cruise control features. All in it’s a huge win on road trip comfort.

Its a good bit louder than my wife's '17 Q7. Maybe slightly louder than my old '14 Grand Cherokee. Not nearly as loud as my '09 Wrangler was.

This truck is great on the highway, plenty of power when you want it. Nice and quiet and gets about 350-400 miles for a tank (I have the tune).

The cruise control nagging is annoying but you get use to it. It's a really nice place to be for multiple hours.

Last night I was able to carve up some late night country and farm back roads in sport mode. The truck feels awesome doing this. It's doesn't feel heavy or unstable, lots of control.

Halfway through a ~3000 mile road trip. Averaging in the 16s, but that's two people, a dog, a cat, and a bed full of stuff. Half of the trip out here was at 85-90mph. Fuel economy really seems to drop off at 85+

I just turned the lane centering off. No matter what I did I could not get the alerts to stop and it was super annoying. That feature is not something I really need to have on all the time, anyway. The lane departure is enough for me.

The seats are UNBEARABLE in my 2024 Ranger. They need to be redesigned. If you feel under the seat with your hand, you can feel the low-density FOAM in the middle of the seat which is UNSUPPORTED there, then at the same time push down on the top of the seat, in the middle with your fist and you can see that it is UNSUPPORTED with little presure (may 15lbs. This causes your butt to push the foam cushion down without restriction. after about 1/2-1hr riding you can feel it. The seats sides are ridged so it wedges your butt down on the unsupported foam and pushes your pelvis together, causing discomfort and PAIN in your butt, pelvis and back. My 115 lb wife will not ride in it, she does not want her back to be sore. The truck is the best engineered truck of all the midsize truck I looked at and look at them all, but I dread driving it anywhere for more than 1 hr, I only have 1700 mi and it just sits in my driveway. The seats are an easy fix, just SUPPORT the middle of the cushion to keep it from free falling in the center of it. FORD NEED TO ADDRESS THIS. All 2024 Ranger seats are like this! I don't know about any other year. The rear seats seem to be supporting the foam cushion.

Wow interesting. You do realize the Raptor trim has completely different seats... so to say "all '24 Ranger seats are like this" is not accurate. I have a sensitive back from a car accident decades ago, and I did a 13 hour drive in my Raptor only stopping for restroom breaks and fuel, and had no pain whatsoever.
