Ford has graciously agreed to repurchase my 2026 Ford Ranger XL. While I enjoyed the truck, it spent too many days in the shop and it was not the best experience.

I really appreciate all the suggestions and wisdom shared on my post and questions. They helped more than you can imagine. On October 29, I am going to turn in the truck.

Best wishes to everyone and thanks again.

Sorry man. I think we all have that fear when we buy a new vehicle, thankfully it rarely becomes reality. Better luck in the future.

I hope your new vehicle is trouble free and you are able to find a good forum to enjoy. I hate reading of people who have to go through troubles and end up having to get something else, it definitly is a bummer.

What issues did you have?

Bought mine less than 3 months ago, 2k miles on her, and I've had so many issues it's baffling. Just got her back a month later for the cam phaser replacement and it's immediately leaking coolant everywhere... It's really tainting what I thought would be a good truck. Don't even like looking at it anymore

Look into your state's lemon law.

Glad Ford agreed to buy it back! Hopefully you have better luck with your next ride.

Prior to my Ranger I had a 2022 Bronco that was trouble free, and then a 2024 Maverick that had so many interior build quality issues, Ford bought it back. I was hesitant to get another Ford but the more I read…it just seems like any new car there’s a small chance you’ll get a lemon. My 2024 Ranger XL has been trouble free thus far.

If u want old school reliability, look at Frontier Pro4X....'26 models are heavily discounted and u can get one fully loaded with moonroof/leather for around $42k. Natural inspired V6 that has been around for 15 years. My dad-in-law is still driving his old Frontier with over 130k miles and he does all maintenance in his garage. And don't bother with small ass 4 banger engines with turbos.

Only a few years ago I would have agreed with that. Especially those tiny turbo 3cyls Chevy uses. Disappointing driving experience...
That all changed when my wife bought her 2022 Escape titanium. 2.0 turbo 250 hp. That was v8 power not long ago! And it gets 30+ mpg on the highway! I've been impressed (with the engine, the car itself is a soulless transportation appliance...)
And the Ranger 2.3 guys don't seem to have sacrificed much, that's a lot of power and very good mileage.
Technology is killing us, but in this case it's pretty awesome.

Did you try a different dealer at all through this?

I really don't think any dealer could have fixed it. The first issue was really disconcerted me. I was driving home and stoppped off. I started my car and I am glad I recorded this. This is a 4 second video clearly showing the Ranger in PARK and the speedometer moving. It also had another message. The speedometer issue never showed in any of the diagnostic logs.

Check out the attached. Have you ever seen anything like this?

Later I got a bunch of errors that showed up on the dash. They thought it was a wheel speed sensor but they messages came back. The final service call the truck was in the shop for a month.

If you are considering a Lemon Law or Ford Buy Back claim, document EVERYTHING. I have a timeline document of everything involving this vehicled. The date and time (if relevant). If it's a phone call, I documented date, time, duration of call, who I talked to and what was said.

Having that documented is important.

If you drop your truck off for service, the mileage in and the mileage out.

Get a copy of the repair tickets. Read it and if there is something you feel should be included, insist it be added to the ticket. During one visit, they contacted Ford for help. I had them include the case number on the ticket. I called Ford with the case number but since it was between Ford and the dealer they wouid not tell me what the case was about.

In 105 days, the truck was in the shop 50 days. Ford could never confirm if the warnings I was getting were real or hallucinations or what.

Best I can discribe it was gremlins.
