I'm at work...what was the verdict?

If the winner is Toyo OC AT3s, then it's a great video.

If the winner isn't the exact tires I own, they're MONSTERS and UNEDUCATED. :)

As the owner of the Toyos on my Maverick, 100% agree. Phenomenal tires.

I'm not even close to needing tires... but those XTM ATs look nice.

But what I really want is a Ranger version of that Wolfbox electric tonneau!

Told yah! Lol. XTMs are my KO3 replacements probably by next summer. I think they are the new standard in off-road focused AT tires.

And ive been saying people switching to the AT4Ws are giving up some legit offroad performance over the KO3s. The KO3s are a very good offroad tire, but i do get that some are willing to trade a bit of off road performance for a bit better onroad handling predictability which the Falkens deliver on in that category.

The AT4Ws are decent tires, but they seem to give up a lot in other areas for small gains in one. The XTMs really outshine all the other offroad focused AT tires due to their predictability, outright grip especially in the wet and just overall handling in a variety of conditions, allowing you to more fully exploit their limits. It's the tire for the Ranger Raptor and Ford SHOULD make the factory tire going forward, but I doubt that since they already have the molds made for the KO3's and they are still a very solid tire. KO3 is still by #2 choice.

But the question now becomes why bother with the heavy a** AT4Ws and give up legitimate offroad capability, wet traction etc. when you get improvement in both on and offroad with the XTMs and similar wear life to the KO3?

The XTMs are the synthesis of on-road focused and off-road focused AT tires that actually deliver pretty good on both. It's the tire to get for performance minded drivers. Maybe not for dedicated crawling or deep mud, although it will do well for those too against other AT tires, but there are better specialty choices for those dedicated uses. Im after a true drivers AT tire focusing on overall performance and the XTM is it.

The XTM AT is like the Pilot Sport 4S for on-road summer ultra-high performance tires. It sets the benchmark by which all others now try to reach.

I also think its hilarious how people are switching to the Falken becuase they say the KO3 sucks so bad in the rain...and yet the Falken was the second worst tire in wet testing! I'm not poo pooing Falken, I've used their tires before on my wife's previous car (2018 CX-9, with WildPeak AT's, the on-road AT version) and they lasted forever, but they never really had the best wet grip. Dry grip was good, steering response was good for an AT tire on a road oriented car, better than something like the KO3, which is one of its weaknesses, on road handling.

Now the KO3 isn't the best tire for wet by any means, but it does tend to not recover well once it slides, but its grip level in the wet isn't as bad as people claim. I do agree, it also understeers in the wet on road. And its biggest draw back in dry is that it just isn't precise, you can't really push it like a sport tire or even a good all-season on road. Now come the XTM. It is a drivers tire through and through (at least as far as off-road focused AT tires go). I don't expect the XTM to perform like an all season, but it's not that far behind it on road, which is hard to do for an off-road focused AT tire.

Thanks for the vid, it's awesome to see them all compared. Now go buy some XTMs and enjoy exploiting the RR chassis and powertrain! It's just like TriboTEX In Situ DLC films, people poo pooed tech they dont even understand, didn't read any of the actual material I provided (volumes of test data including multiple ASTM tests), but then some people tried it and are like, "ok, I get it now".

I really think Pirelli's experience with on road performance car tires played dividends for the XTM compound development, carcass design and tread patterns even though they don't have a strong history in off-road, they will now!

Come on BFG, re-imagine the KO4 and beat the XTM. I want a tire war, so off-road AT's keep getting better and better!

List of Reviews and Info on the Pirelli XTM AT's:

Pirelli Launches Scorpion XTM All-Terrain Tire That's Also for EVs

Is this the new BEST All Terrain Tire? BFGoodrich KO3 vs Pirelli Scorpion XTM AT (this is one of the prior reviews to the video linked by the OP comparing only the KO3 to the XTM AT, mostly in on-road and off-road dry conditions, but dives a little deeper).

New Pirelli XTM AT in the Desert! On & Off Road Test // Jeep Wrangler + Ford Bronco + Rivian R1S (this is TheTropher's review at a Pirelli tire event to demo their new XTM AT, it's also decently in-depth and he describes very similar improvements over the KO3 and other AT tires overall).

Pirelli's Marketing Comparison (which might actually be one of few that's honest):

Ford Ranger The Best All Terrain Tire tested on the RR! 1782391152253-ds

If I had to guess, the blue is most likely the KO3 and the red is Falken AT4W. Those are probably the two most popular off road focused AT tires on the market and based on the review the OP linked, that spider chart looks about right.

If you want to prioritize on-road comfort, maintain excellent off-road performance, the KO3 is still a great option, but if you want a driver's tire, something that really focuses on allowing you to push the Raptor chassis to its limits, the XTM AT is the tire to get!

Also, those side rides are HUGE on the XTM AT's, so I do think its likely they do better in mud than the KO3's, but probably not as good as a dedicated mud terrain. The rides on the side are what give a tire bite in deep mud, sinking sand, loamy dirt and loose pea gravel types of terrain.

XTM's are more aggressive on that than the KO3's and the ridges look more functional and broader, more like side paddles, so I expect this do very well even in those situations too.

If you drive mostly on road, you could also opt for the EV version of the XTM to save on fuel, giving up a bit of off-road performance, but still very good overall. The EV version has a slightly altered compound to reduce rolling resistance, but at the loss of a little bit of outright traction.

Or the Nokians, they did very well too, but you won't get that aggressive AT tire look with the Nokians.

I know John he is the best of the best.

I already had the Pirellis as my next tire, but this test cemented that choice.

I hated the Toyo AT IIIs that I had on my last Ranger Tremor. I ended up swapping them out to KO2s. They were dangerous in the wet. YRMV.

Multiple testers show the AT IIIs are fine in the wet, so who knows, maybe it was just the combination of the size, the load range, and the light weight rear end of the Ranger that caused me so much grief.

I chalk test all of my vehicles, and had played around with tire pressures, so it wasn't that.

Tires do have some differences between the sizes, but when you go completely out of left field with a completely different size and load that the vehicle calls for, you can get weird behavior.

I had the Toyo's on my last truck as well and they sucked in the rain. I like the XTM but I wish they made at least a 34 or 35 for 17's.

Yeah but I was waiting for this guy to properly review the XTMs with the rest. He did not disappoint me. He answered a comment I made when the XTM launched and said this was long coming. He seemed genuinely excited to test these out.

I'm wondering how the XTM will look on a RR.

At first I thought the KO3s were almost dangerous to drive but I think they need a couple of thousands kms to be in their sweet spot.

I kinda like them now (I have proper winter tires...Viking8). Maybe not a sport tire in the wet but very predictable.

First one to put XTMS on...please post pictures, plenty!

Would have liked to have seen the Nitto Terra Grappler G3 instead of the Recon version.
I had Nitto Terra Grapplers on a prior vehicle...2015 to 2020the recommendation of Discount Tire...2015-2020. Not sure if they were G3's? But they were great...some of the best tires I have ever had. They were also a few bucks per tire cheaper, and a few pounds lighter. I still went back to BFG's KO3's. But the Nitto TG's were fantastic.
